Kung Fu was originally developed for self-defense and life preservation. Today, people enter our school from a multitude of lifestyles, cultures, and professions. Some wish to develop self-defense skills, others to keep physically fit, relieve stress, and improve posture, flexibility and coordination. Professionals often are interested in cross-cultural communication of Asian ideas, values, and society. The Shaolin Monks, founded over 1500 years ago, developed an intense mind-body training “system” that can be developed to a spiritual level, producing superior sensitivity, awareness, and ability to concentrate and learn. Self-defense, increased strength, improved balance, and flexibility - Our training program consists of Chi Gung Studies, Nei Gung Studies, and traditional form studies (sets of exercises that are progressively more intricate), and partnered application training (learning how to defend yourself against punches, kicks, grabs, chokes, etc.) Self-awareness and development - You will learn how to manage stress and cultivate a higher level of personal energy through a discipline that positively affects your entire personality, even your diet. Increase vitality, health, and longevity - You will learn how to manage certain physiological factors that will increase your vitality, maintain good health, and increase longevity. Some of these factors are 1) muscle mass 2) strength 3) basal metabolic rate 4) body muscle to fat percentage 5) aerobic capacity and 6) bone density. Kung Fu develops a knowledge of energy cultivation through proper diet and meditative-respiratory exercise. It is an art that explores philosophy, psychology, and self-awareness.
