What is the DEAL with our medical staff?! Misdiagnoses and mysteries galore! Whit, Anthony, Crochet and even Casas just to name a few in the past year or so!

Garrett Whitlock was pitching on a fractured leg, and somehow the injury wasn’t properly diagnosed until after the Red Sox season was over. Whitlock was working with Boston’s staff to manage ongoing pain in his right leg throughout the final month of the season, but he continued pitching and was unbelievable. He made eight appearances in September and posted a 0.00 ERA, all while apparently pitching with a fractured right tibia. The fracture wasn’t correctly identified until after Boston was eliminated. The good news is Whitlock won’t need surgery. He’ll spend four to six weeks in a boot and is expected to have a normal offseason and be ready for spring training. But this is going to raise even more questions about how the Red Sox handle injuries. Whitlock was telling the team about ongoing pain, they were actively managing it with him, and somehow he finished the season pitching on a fractured tibia without anyone knowing that’s what it was. The fact that he was dominant while doing it is incredible, but the fact that the fracture wasn’t discovered until afterward is pretty concerning.
