9am absolutely set the standard today with Lauren at the helm.
We wanted to program this workout, for a lot of reasons:
-First, it was different from what most people are used to seeing in a CrossFit class.
-Second, it introduces a movement many people have never practiced before.
-Third, we wanted people to have fun and step outside of the same grind we’ve all become accustomed to.
➡️Forward rolls are much more than something different to do. There’s a reason they’re a staple in nearly every martial arts discipline: They improve body awareness, coordination, balance, spatial orientation, confidence, and the ability to move safely through space. They challenge the brain as much as the body and force us to become comfortable being uncomfortable.
What looked silly today was actually pretty demanding—physically and mentally. That’s exactly why this is a Hero WOD. Hero workouts aren’t always about the heaviest barbell or the longest grind. Sometimes they’re about embracing discomfort, learning something new, and pushing through the urge to quit when things feel awkward or unfamiliar.
Lauren showed up excited. Not just willing to do the workout—but genuinely excited. She had even researched the workout, learned when it was created, and why it was created. Most people don’t realize what that means to coaches. After all these years, seeing someone embrace something new instead of resisting it still hits us right in the heart.
➡️Coaches spend a lot of time trying to help people see the value in things they may not immediately understand. When someone shows up with curiosity, trust, and enthusiasm, it reminds us why we do what we do.
Thank you, Lauren.
And thank you 9am crew, for bringing the energy, embracing the challenge, and setting the stage for the week. đź’śđź’š
