We're kicking off something new — Big Easy x Big Shoulders, our first-ever exchange between The Exchange Pickleball + Bar and SPF Chicago.

From June 18–22, two of SPF's top pros are heading south to host a week of clinics, guided open play, and challenge courts right here in the Lower Garden District.

Meet the pros:

Emir Hamzic — Former ATP tennis professional and Serbia's #1 pickleball player, now competing on the APP and PPA tours. Known for his high-energy coaching style and technical expertise.

Martin Stanchev — PPA professional player, former Bulgarian National Tennis Champion, and one of Illinois' top-ranked DUPR players. Coaching all levels since 2015 with a focus on confidence and fundamentals.

Play with the Coaches Open Play

Take the court with some of our top coaches and advanced players in this high-level open play session. This event is designed for competitive players looking for quality games, challenging matchups, and the opportunity to play alongside experienced coaches.

To ensure a strong and competitive environment, this open play has a minimum DUPR requirement of 3.75. Players will rotate through games with coaches and fellow participants, creating a fun, fast-paced atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to learn, compete, and elevate your game.

Clear Skies Hospitality, the Chicago-based parent company behind SPF Chicago, has acquired The Exchange Pickleball + Bar, marking the company’s first expansion beyond Illinois.

Both founders point to a natural alignment between the two cities — major tourist destinations, sports towns, and places where people already move between for leisure — as part of what made the deal feel right. Clear Skies Hospitality founder Richard Green said they are already envisioning cross-club programming: summer trips to Chicago for New Orleans members, winter trips south for Chicagoans, shared coaching staff, and even inter-club competitions and trivia nights.

“We believe the strongest communities are built by enhancing what already resonates locally, not replacing it,” said Green. “The Exchange has created something truly special in New Orleans, and we look forward to building on that foundation while creating meaningful connections between our communities in New Orleans and Chicago.”
