MEET THE OWNER: Tarvus "Tarv" McGeary was born in 1952 in the little town of Lafayette, Louisiana. As a child, Tarv had a good upbringing from his mother Ellen and father Patrick McGeary. He spent much of his childhood making friends, and playing in the swamps. He got decent grades in school, and tried his best to stay out of trouble. In 1969, he graduated from Jefferson High School.
Two years later, Uncle Sam called Tarv to service. The conflict in Vietnam was more heated than ever. Tarv was dropped into the jungle shortly after graduating from US Army Bootcamp. Tarv served his first tour in 1971, where he served until his tour was over in 1972. In 1973, Tarv was given a second tour, where he got hit by an enemy round in the shoulder, and was eventually sent home with honors. In 1974, despite his wishes, Tarv was not allowed to return to Vietnam for a 3rd tour due to his previous injury. In 1976, less than a year after the war in Vietnam had ended, Tarv received an honorable discharge from the US Army.
Back home, Tarv was undecided on where he wanted to go in life. He decided to go into Law Enforcement, and graduated from the Police Academy in 1979. In 1981, Tarv met the love of his life, Kathryn Ledoux, and they married in 1983. They gave birth to their only child, Samuel McGeary, in 1986.Tarv chose to apply with the NOPD, and was hired in shortly after. Tarv proudly served the NOPD for 21 years on Road Patrol as well as in the Narcotics Division. In his last 13 years with the Department, Tarv worked with Homicide Division, and was described by his brothers in blue as a "remarkable detective." After retiring in 2001, Tarv continued his line of work by working as a Private Investigator. In 2007, Tarv was blessed with a Grandson, Hunter. Hunter is to this day the apple of Tarv's eye. In 2012, Kathryn McGeary passed away after a long-fought battle with cancer. Tarv was right by her side. To this day, Tarv brings flowers to her grave weekly.
In 2013, Tarv decided that it was time for something new. He began bartending for a short time at a small cafe which will not be mentioned (BDC) until he quit later that year. In 2014, Tarv purchased an old warehouse, and converted it into what is known today as Gator Tarv's Lazer Tag, which he proudly runs to this day! Tarv has dedicated his life in satisfactory service to others, and he shows it with his effort in his work! Thanks for all that you do, Tarv!
