It’s no longer a flash in the pan 🍳 Coast Guard Wrestling has cemented itself as a national contender, with sustained success for going on a decade now.

With multiple National Qualifiers every season and multiple All-American (honoree) accolades in 8 of the last 9 seasons, the success at the national level cannot be ignored.

If you want to serve your country and contend to be an All-American and National Champion, the US Coast Guard Academy should be at the top of your list.

2018 All-Americans Owen and McClave and Nick Remke, accompanied by National Qualifiers AJ Aeberli and Jon Wagner
|

In 2019, AJ Aeberli reached the podium at 174lbs with a 6th place finish. Nick Remke, Paul Detwiler, Jon Wagner, and Patrick Irwin qualified as well, with Remke and Irwin reaching the Blood Round
|

2020 saw our National Championship cancelled the evening before Day 1.

All six of our National Qualifiers were selected as either First or Second Team All-American honorees despite being unable to wrestle the event.
|

In 2021, Coast Guard traveled with ten representatives to Coralville, Iowa for a National Tournament event hosted by the NWCA.

In a season of two dual meets and this tournament, the Bears showed up and had six wrestlers podium, while all ten wrestlers won bouts!
|

2022 All-Americans Paul Detwiler and Coy Spooner led the charge, alongside National Qualifiers Tony Ulaszek, Joe Chapman, and Phil Rogers
|

2023 was one of our strong performances with four of our five National Qualifiers getting on the podium. It also marked our third consecutive year with someone representing Coast Guard in the finals.
|

National Champion, Chase Randall highlighted the NCAAs, being named the MOW.

Incredibly gritty performances by Coy Spooner and Carl DiGiorgio also saw them earned consecutive AA honors for each of them.

Joe Chapman, Steven Rochard, and Nate F**t also represented the program.

All smiles when former teammates meet up in the fleet!

Recent Coast Guard Academy graduates and All-Americans, Carl DiGiorgio and Nate F**t reconnected just months after their graduation, this time in Charleston, South Carolina.

DiGiorgio, now on a MSST team out of Kings Bay, Georgia, traveled north to Charleston to brief a Sector Commander on upcoming operations. F**t happened to be on duty on his cutter and invited the MSST team over for a tour of the ship.

The connections you make within our wrestling program don’t end when you graduate. In fact, that is just the beginning!

We can’t wait to follow their careers and see the amazing ways they will impact our country as Coast Guard officers. Keep making us proud, fellas!

An exciting morning onboard the United States Coast Guard Academy, as our program celebrated the commissioning of, now, ENS Thomas Rhodes as an officer in the USCG! πŸŽ‰

Surrounded by friends, teammates, instructors, and various military personnel, Thomas was given the oath by Captain Harris, Commandant of Cadets for the USCGA. βœ‹

While Thomas awaits his first assignment, we have been grateful for his continued presence and mentorship this summer at the Academy! πŸ™

Coach Bratland’s remarks summed it up perfectly: β€œWe have a saying within our program, β€˜If you want to be a dawg, you gotta do what dawgs do. Thomas Rhodes is a dawg!’” 🐢🦴

Congrats, Thomas! Fair winds and following seas, ENS! 🫑

A day that has been circled on the calendar for a year, courtesy of the Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association!

The Coast Guard Academy Wrestling mission reaches far beyond wins and losses. We’re developing young men who pursue excellence in the classroom, on the wrestling mat, and ultimately become some of the world’s finest military officers.

Our program continues to pursue All-American honors and National Championships while preparing cadet-athletes for something even greater β€” careers of leadership and service, protecting the United States, its people, and its interests.

Our alumni, families, friends and fans who follow our program remain an important part of the Coast Guard Wrestling family.

Today, we celebrate how far this program has come β€” and how much further we believe it can go.

The future of Coast Guard Wrestling is bright. The standard continues to rise.

Last year saw the breakout performance of yet another 4/c wrestler for our program πŸ€Όβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’ͺ

Marvin Armistead earned 20+ wins on the season, made the NCAA Region 1 Championship Finals, and qualified for the National Championships πŸ…

Another season, another 4/c who made an immediate impact in our starting line-up πŸ“ˆ

It’s not a one-off, it’s routine πŸ”‚

If you’re a young buck in our program, you’re going to be given opportunities to prove yourself and earn the spot. It’s up to you to have the confidence and poise to take hold of it and run πŸ”

Who will be the 4/c this year that makes their impact felt? 🧐
