"Our call as followers of Jesus is to actually walk with our counselees and friends and church members through the valley of the shadow of death. We dive down with them into the stories that feel like death, that feel like they might fall apart, so they don't have to do it alone. This is the path Jesus took. Because Jesus was the forerunner, we know that we won’t meet death when we get closer to these stories. We dive down with people into the places where God has prepared a table before them in the presence of their enemies. But we don't face it alone. We face it with one another. We name it. We look it in the eye. In the presence of our enemies."

Our hope is located in the truth that it's actually through our sufferings- through the things we experience in life that the Lord is bringing near his promises.

What teens often need most is a parent who is willing to listen, remain curious, provide support, and stay connected through both the challenges and successes of the journey. And in that way, you are being the biggest help to them because you are showing them the face of Jesus.

God has something for you in this as well. Allow your child’s process to be an invitation to sojourn on your own, asking God what insights into your family system he might be highlighting and how he is inviting you into a healing process of your own.

Anxiety is not an uncommon experience in ministry. This Thursday I’ll be leading a breakout session exploring how God often uses our anxieties as a doorway into the deeper stories shaping our hearts and lives. Together, we’ll consider how Christ meets us in those places with healing, grace, and truth—not only through His presence, but also through the presence of His people.

We’ll talk about the importance of the church body learning to bring the face of Christ to one another’s stories of anxiety: listening well, bearing burdens together, and creating spaces where people can be known, loved, and restored in community rather than isolation.

New Blog Post- Becoming Whole by Being Held.

"A Christian vision of flourishing doesn’t ignore life’s struggles. Rather, it reorients our suffering within the greater story of God’s redeeming love. Instead of asking only “How do I fix myself?” we learn to ask, “How is God inviting me into deeper trust, hope, and love?”

What we find with Keller’s Gospel vision and Cusick’s trauma informed approach are these three anchors:

Flourishing is anchored in identity in Christ, not break throughs.

Wholeness grows where woundedness meets God’s transforming grace.

Applications are now open for Storied Lives 2026!
The premise of the group is that through the writing and sharing of personal stories in a group setting, we come out of hiding and begin hearing what God wants to say to us about our stories. There's something very special and unique about healing in a group. It helps us realize we’re not alone in our pain and gives us a space to grow together that is different from individual counseling. Opening these stories to others brings them to the Light of the Father for Him to offer hope and redemption to our present lives.
Our group meets in person at the CCEF New England office in Wilder, VT from 6-8pm on Monday evenings from January through May. The group meets in five week sessions with two week breaks in between. During each five week session, members of the group write, submit and share a memory that is written as a narrative. Instructions about what type of story and how to write the stories are given. Specific training and teaching also accompanies each session so that stories are treated with honor, thoughtfulness and kindness.
