Mia Capritto A Difficult Out As New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets Defeat Highland Baptist Christian Varsity Bears

Mia Capritto collected three hits in four at bats, as New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets defeated Highland Baptist Christian Varsity Bears 14-0 on Thursday at 1301 E Admiral Doyle Dr. Capritto singled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the second inning.

Shaylee Gibson struck out 11 batters on the day. The right-handed pitcher also surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings while walking none.

New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Gibson singled, scoring one run, Peyton Provost singled, scoring one run, and Emersyn Jones drew a walk, scoring one run.

A sacrifice fly by Amalie Sumrall extended the New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Jones singled, scoring one run, a wild pitch scored one run, Palyn Freeman hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Capritto singled, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored one run.

Addisen Yates took the loss for Highland Baptist Christian Varsity Bears. The pitcher went three innings, allowing 11 runs (seven earned) on nine hits, striking out three and walking three.

New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets collected 14 hits in the game. Sumrall drove the middle of the lineup, leading New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets with two runs batted in. Provost, Jones, Gibson, and Ava Frederick each collected multiple hits for New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets. New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases for the game. New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets turned one double play in the game. New Iberia Varsity Lady Jackets were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Sumrall had the most chances in the field with 11.

Huge congratulations to Shaylee Gibson on officially signing her scholarship to further her education and softball career at Holmes Community College! 🎉🥎

Shaylee is a senior softball player and a 3-year starter for the Yellow Jackets, and this accomplishment is a reflection of her hard work, dedication, and the countless sacrifices she and her family have made along the way. I’m truly grateful to have been a small part of her journey and to witness her growth on and off the field.

Congratulations to Shaylee and her family on this amazing milestone! I can’t wait for this upcoming season with her and the rest of our girls — it’s going to be something special. 💛🖤🐝🥎

🔥🔥 Today is a particularly gratifying day to be a Yellow Jacket, as our team's impressive batting display in the bottom of the 6th allowed us to overcome a 2-3 deficit and emerge victorious with a score of 10-3 in 6.5 innings. The team's collective effort and outstanding performance were truly impressive! 🔥🔥 💪🏾🥎🖤💛🐝 🤏🏾

We have started the season with a 2-0 record.

Tomorrow, NISH will face the Lady Gators in a 5 pm game at St. Amant.
