It is cold. BUT, the dojo is warm, has electricity and water, and the roads are dry and ice free, so we will have class tonight. Come and train and WEAR A COAT AND SHOES.

New Year Update

We are grateful to share that repairs and cleanup at the dojo following the fire are nearly complete, and we will resume classes this evening at our regular time of 5:15 PM. The bathroom is fully functional, lighting and ceiling repairs have been completed, and the floors have been thoroughly cleaned. There may still be a faint residual odor, but it is temporary and does not impact safety or operations.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Chief Gordon Copell and the New Iberia Fire Department. Given the intensity of the fire and the wind conditions, their swift decisions and decisive actions quite literally saved the dojo. By quickly removing affected ceiling panels and insulation, fully extinguishing embers, and maintaining water coverage throughout the night, they minimized the damage and secured the building. We are truly fortunate to have such a highly trained, professional, and responsive fire department serving our community. It was especially meaningful to see former members and parents among those who responded.

I also want to thank the many friends, families, and community members who have reached out to support my family and me during the past few days. Your concern, prayers, and encouragement have been deeply felt and greatly appreciated. While I haven’t been able to respond to everyone individually due to the circumstances, please know how thankful we are for your kindness.

I will share photos soon and provide a final update on Monday. We were very fortunate in this situation, and I am personally and sincerely grateful to everyone who played a role in helping us move forward.

Update. Though classes will be canceled tonight because we just got the power back on, the dojo is in much better shape than this sign. The bathroom should be operational by next week and we’ll resume classes then. Thanks to Tiffany Luent and Lori Dartez for assisting in the cleanup. If anyone wants to pitch in, we’ll be back tomorrow cleaning after lunch.

Well we had a fire at the Karate school tonight. The abandoned building next door caught on fire and the blaze was so intense it caught our insulation on fire. We have water and smoke damage door damage and ceiling damage, but the electrical box was pulled and I can’t assess it until tomorrow. So it’s unlikely we’ll have training tomorrow night, but check back for updates. Thanks

More information on the March Camp. Hope to see everyone there. Since it is on Saturday and Sunday March 15 and 16, we hope it makes it easier to attend. Please e mail if you need any more information.
