Pratyahara: withdrawing from the senses.
Life gets so busy, and time seems to be moving faster for all of us. Pratyahara is a tool that can help you get your time back.
When you are doing something, try to block out distractions and be absorbed in the one thing calling for your attention. At times, you may be distracted by the feeling or desire for “things”, conditions or sense-objects to be different. Be easier, less work. But life is work. And while we must work, we have a choice in how our works are performed and how we handle the outcome.
Pratyahara does not cause the senses or sense objects to turn off and disappear. It causes your mind to focus intensely on how you feel about what you are experiencing but not respond to it. Withdraw from the senses and enter a new experience where time slows down and things get very quiet. To achieve this, you must be optimistic. You must WANT to turn from the senses, and in this way not everyone is ready for Pratyahara, because not everyone has the natural desire to withdraw. But for those who are tired of the noise, tired of their own bu****it and wanna get real…Pratyahara is a bridge to the real.
Let me do this one thing well. And offer it as a gift to the whole world with love. Let me be happy doing it. Let me learn and grow. Presence is not a “prison sentence”. You aren’t stuck in your experience, you are just focused in the wrong place and it is causing you suffering. Focus inward, sit calmly and breathe deeply. Reflect on the silence and the stillness, do not react to noises or events going on around you. Stay calm, and cheerful, and enjoy the present moment.
Happy New Year!
