Night one of the Maine Kayak Sea Kayak Guide Course is underway.

Great to see a strong group of future guides from around the country coming together online to begin learning about leadership, risk management, and what it takes to guide safely along the Maine coast. Looking forward to seeing everyone grow as we move toward the on-water sessions this spring.

🛶 Paddle Sports Safety Series 🛶

Build confidence on the water this winter with Maine Kayak and the Boothbay Region YMCA. This hands-on safety series is designed for all paddlesports - sea kayaks, recreational kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.

In a warm, controlled pool setting, we’ll practice:
• Wet exits
• Self-rescues
• Assisted rescues
• Incident management

Whether you’re new to paddling or want a solid safety refresher, this is time well spent before the season begins.

Just wrapped up my ACA L4 Open Water Coastal Kayak Instructor Certification down in South Carolina. The venue delivered everything - tidal rivers, strong currents, and plenty of surf to keep us smiling. The ACA instructor trainer team created a welcoming space where everyone felt comfortable stepping up, trying new things, and sharpening real on-water skills.

Grateful for the coaching, the challenge, and the chance to keep growing. Can’t wait to bring this energy back to Maine Kayak and help the next wave of paddlers build their confidence on the ocean.

staff are a hearty, jolly crew who don’t mind a little cold if it means joining the lighted boat parade. We showed up glowing, decorated and laughing the whole way through, bringing plenty of cheer to Boothbay Harbor.

Down in Tybee Island this week for the L3 Coastal Kayak Instructor Workshop. Not exactly “warm,” but the learning has been solid - coaching methods, observation and feedback, rescues, trip planning and navigation in real coastal conditions. Grateful for the crew down here and the chance to keep leveling up as a coach and paddler.
