🚨 A new bill in Congress could sharply limit the government’s use of Flock cameras and other surveillance technology.

Rep. Tim Burchett introduced the Protection Against Mass Surveillance Act, which would restrict federal agencies from buying, using or accessing systems that track people through license plates, facial recognition, biometrics and other identifying data.

Supporters say these cameras help police find stolen vehicles and suspects faster. Critics argue the same technology can create a massive searchable record of where ordinary Americans travel—even when they are not suspected of any crime.

The bill is still only a proposal, but it has pushed a much bigger question into Congress: how much privacy should people give up in the name of public safety?

A major federal court ruling has reignited the debate over how far immigration authorities can go when detaining undocumented immigrants inside the United States.

The government argued that certain immigrants who entered without lawful admission could be held without access to bond. But the Eleventh Circuit rejected that broad interpretation, ruling that people arrested in the interior may still qualify for bond hearings under federal immigration law.
