Most fans saw the 3-2.

The fighters and coaches saw the setup.
j__davis was looking to pull counter. A good idea wrong position until .jasir made a small adjustment.

Watch the feet.

Riley steps a few inches to his left and brings the back foot with him, changing the line of attack just enough to throw the pull counter off schedule.

The OG Donnie ray use to say

Position before punch.

That little step changed everything.

Now the hook lines him up.
The right hand follows.
And the target is right where it needs to be.

That’s the sweet science.

Not a big move.
Not a flashy move.

Just a few inches of intelligent footwork creating a few feet of trouble.

The best fighters don’t always hit harder.

Sometimes they simply arrive from a different area code.

And .j__davis gonna box back he will see jasir Riley again great scrape champs.

Building in that defensive responsibility.

Learning how to punch without forgetting how to defend.

Attach - defend- counter As he’s throwing the uppercut,

his right hand stays glued to his cheek,

catching the hook coming back.

Building defensive responsible boxing, counters can be countered.

Never admire your work.

Hit him and be ready

for what comes back.
Offense after defense - defense after offense..

Show him something to make him show you something.

That’s what you’re seeing here.

The jab can can score or gather data

They say boxing is chess instead of checkers.

So we just can’t just throw punches we gotta work on understanding setting traps and create reactions.
Collect information.
And build counters.
Learn how to box.

The Fight IQ has to be trained as well if we talking the sweet science.

Most fall in love with the punches that land , me personally I like everything that leads up to the action being displayed. (Tory out pointed him easy in this clip)

Tory (in the red trunks) showed some good IQ: the slick jabs the body work from the opening bell , he showed some catch-and-shoot counters, good good level changes, and good good head movement making his opponent miss.

The og’s use to say get under them punches , Make him miss, make him pay.

Offense agate defense , defense after offense , he had good feet, stayed composured , and made some great reads at the right time. Basic fundamentals and these guys only get better …

No punches landed. It was Still good work.
Why ?

(for me i see what they been working on in the gym)

Because boxing ain’t just about hitting. It’s about position.

Both fighters working the in-and-out game, learning range, learning timing, learning how to touch the edge of danger without living there. You’re an inch from landing or an inch from getting hit.

I remember my OG Ray used to say
“If he can’t reach you, he can’t hurt you.

Distance. Balance. Positioning.

The sweet science isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s 20 seconds of two fighters learning how to control the street between them. 🥊

Most fighters and coaches don’t understand this — every level of sparring has a purpose.
You’re not supposed to get the same lesson from every round.

Sparring guys under your level:
That’s where you develop control, defense, composure, timing, and leadership. If you can’t stay relaxed and sharp with a lower-level fighter, you probably don’t truly own your fundamentals yet. Great fighters use these rounds to practice seeing punches, rolling, countering, foot positioning, and experimenting without panic.

Sparring guys on your level:
This is where competition lives. These rounds expose habits, conditioning, heart, adjustments, and ring IQ. Nobody can cruise here. This is where you learn how to problem solve in real time against somebody who can actually punish mistakes.

Sparring guys better than you:
That’s where growth happens. Humbling rounds build fighters. Better fighters expose your weaknesses fast , your positioning, reactions, discipline, conditioning, and mental toughness. These rounds teach you what levels really look like. If your ego survives it, your skill usually improves.

The mistake fighters make is wanting every sparring session to be a war or an ego contest. Real boxing development is about balance:

* Some rounds are for learning
* Some are for sharpening
* Some are for surviving
* Some are for building confidence
* Some are for being humbled

Understand all of these levels matter.
