THIS WEEKS UPDATE: 9-0-1 and STILL ROLLING!
Another weeks worth of matches in the books and 2 more wins penciled in! The girls rebounded strong from last weeks tied match with Mercy with some great play and big wins this week.
TUESDAY: CAL (140) defeats Collegiate (144) @ Seneca. Thanks to a great effort down the stretch, we came away with another close win, this time over Collegiate. Three scores were counted in this match and Sarah Son led us in scoring with a solid 42, followed by Abby's 47, Erika's 51 and a great effort by Emily.
THURSDAY: CAL (189) defeats Louisville Male (215) @ Iroquois. If not our biggest win of the year, it was certainly one of our most complete matches. Male also entered the match undefeated on the season, but our best 4 scores were just too much for them in this one. Our 189 total was our lowest in at least 4 seasons and was the result of a total team effort. We placed 3 scores in the 40's (Sarah S. 45, Carly 46, Abby 47) and Delaney added one of her best 9's of the season with a 51. Congrats to all the girls on a great round, but especially to Delaney and Jess Skaggs. Delaney exceeded Coach Tom's challenge to shoot in the mid-50's in this match by turning in one of her most consistent performances in a varsity match to date. Also huge props to Jess for competing in her first varsity match in a challenging environment. Her foursome probably had the biggest gallery following them all day, a daunting and intimidating challenge for your first time out...but Jess kept her head up and kept smiling, representing her team well and showing great improvement since the beginning of the season! This was a fun match to watch as several of the girls played with familiar faces from Male...the chatter was almost as entertaining as the golf!
So...we're now 9-0-1 and heading into a busy weekend and week next week. On Saturday we'll compete in the Christian Academy of Indiana Invitational at Hidden Creek (Abby, Carly, Sarah S. and Emily), followed by the Jefferson County Invitational at Shawnee on Monday, and two more big matches on Tues/Thursday. Be sure to wish these girls luck as we head down the home-stretch into regionals. They are really starting to confirm our belief as coaches that our team can truly be a top-3 team in the Louisville Area and in our region for the next several years. Keep up the hard work girls! You are making us proud!
