Hi everyone, sadly I regret to report that Thunder Stix will not reopen. The pandemic virus that has taken a toll on so many human lives and so many small businesses has ended our 11 year run. I'm extremely disappointed that we won't be able to resume operations. As many know, we were forced to shut down in Mid March (January through June provide most of the revenue for the fiscal year). That missed revenue window just could not be recovered.
I had announced a few months ago that I would be retiring at the end of August. That doesn't make this decision any easier. I was looking forward to retirement...but also was looking forward to ending things on my own terms. Seeing my customers one last time. Interacting with my players and staff one last time. Unfortunately, that won't happen but allow me to thank everyone for their support through the years.
No business is perfect and I know we had our fair share of problems over the years but I'd like to think that we did some really good things over the time we were around. To see the talent that has come through Thunder Stix and gone on to excel on and off the field of play warms my heart. When we opened in 2009, HS softball in the northern part of the state of DE was not on par with the downstate teams. I don't think that is the current reality. The New Castle County teams have drastically improved and are constantly a threat to make a championship run. The number of baseball and softball travel teams has grown exponentially from when we started thereby providing more opportunity for kids to play in a more competitive environment. We trained many of those kids.
So, in closing - THANK YOU! Hopefully your memories of Thunder Stix will be as positive as mine are of you. I'll miss seeing everyone in the cages or in lessons but as they say, all good things must come to an end.
Sincerely,
Coach Rob
