The New Britain-Berlin YMCA is excited to welcome Monica Torpey to our fitness staff! Monica will teach our Tuesday 6:30 p.m. yoga class starting on September 15. You may recognize her as one of the yoga instructors from the Walnut Hill Rose Garden classes. She is a 2018 graduate of West Hartford Yoga’s Teacher Training. She describes her classes as “choose your own adventure yoga” as she gives lots of pose variations so classes are accessible to all regardless of skill level. Classes include a dynamic power yoga flow to improve strength, flexibility, and balance paired with breathing cues and slow movements to put your body and mind at ease. When she’s not on her mat you can find her outdoors exploring, saying hi to every dog she sees, gardening, listening to a podcast, skiing, doing a HIIT workout, daydreaming about her next trip, or in the middle of a pottery project or craft.

Meet Alondra Marin, our new assistant teacher in the New Britain YMCA Little Scholars Preschool B classroom! She has been involved in child care since sophomore year at New Britain High School where she fell in love with the preschool program there. Now she is earning her teaching degree with her goal of becoming a kindergarten teacher. She is very excited to work with our students to help prepare them for success in kindergarten.
