Winter is here again. One reminder for our followers: When it comes to snow removal from your driveway and walkways, try to be careful where you dump/blow the snow. There are two Snow mold diseases of your lawn that thrive under extended snow cover. A pile of snow makes for a perfect breeding ground for these turf destroyers. So, try to dump your snow in areas like shrub and flower beds as well as any areas (like wooded surrounds) that do not have managed turf. Try to prevent dead or weak turf to show it's ugly face after the snow piles have all melted!

This is the time of year (August/early September) when lawn pests can creep up on you. Diseases include Rusts (are your white sneakers starting to show orange after walking on your lawn?). Red Thread - normally a cool weather with high humidity, has been a problem all this summer. Pink Snow mold can start up once the air temps start dropping. Clover and oxalis cranking up in lawns and beds. Are you smelling any skunks or seeing any ripped up patches of your lawn? Did you apply a grub preventer in July? If you need advice on how to solve these problems, please email me at [email protected].
