Training the ‘core’ doesn’t mean you have to perform isolated ab exercises. While there’s nothing wrong or dangerous about traditional ab exercises, we MUST understand how the core functions if we want to truly enhance it in order to MOVE better.
Our body functions as a linked system. And distal movement requires proximal stiffness. Consider trying to move a finger back and forth very quickly – the wrist needed to be stiffened otherwise the entire hand would move. Now using the same principle consider the action of walking. The pelvis must be stiffened to the spine otherwise the left hip would fall as the left leg swings forward to take a step. This core stiffness is non-negotiable to enable walking. Thus all body movement needs appropriate coordination of muscles. To move, run, or squat requires spine stiffness and core stability.
So when you work on creating sufficient core stiffness with proper breathing & bracing pre lift AND work to control spinal positioning as you lift - you’re doing “core work” even though you’re not isolating your abs like you would with a sit up.

So the end has come. These pictures are from the last 2 classes held at GridFit, and then what it looked like empty at the end of Saturday. . I am so grateful for the 8 years we were open. I have had the privilege to meet some amazing people. People I would have never met if I did not open the doors at Grid 8 years ago. From my members to my amazing coaches I am a lucky girl! This was not a easy decision and weighs heavy on my heart right now , but I know it was the right one. It was time, and I hope that I have guided my members to other facilities so that they can continue their fitness journeys. You all know how to contact me if you need to , I am still here to help and guide you. As for me...I am taking a step back for a bit to decide where and what my next journey is. I will continue in the fitness industry, just need to take a little break at this moment and get over the closing of Grid and then " move on" .
I have lots of amazing memories . All I could think about as I was a disassembling the gym on Saturday was all the blood, sweat and tears on those wood boxes, on the wood platforms and on every piece of equipment that walked out the door . Tough day it was !
Thank you for the 8 years..I appreciate all of you, you will be missed! Like I said in the email..no Good Bye's. just see you later's!

You woke up on January first, and surprise - you're still you. There was no magic switch that flipped when the ball dropped, no glittering, glamorous witchcraft that turned you into something else.

You woke up and you were still you, and you took a tired breath and looked around. Your bedroom is still the same, your heart is still the same, and your hurts still feel the same. You're still carrying those extra twenty pounds, thirty, fifty. You're still stuck.

You woke up and you were still you, but you've forgotten that you're pretty great.

You've forgotten that you've **been** working on you all along. You've forgotten that you've been cultivating and plowing and growing and watering yourself for years now.

You've forgotten that all you need to do is get up.

You have forgotten that you are sitting in the driver's seat, that you only get this one precious life, and that you don't need anyone else's permission -

to shine.
to chase.
to wonder.
to excel.

All you need to do is get up, and all you need to do is stand on those two feet, and all you need to do is take a step forward.

Put your hand over your chest and feel the

thump
thump
thump

and remember: you are here for a reason.

You are here for a REASON.

So get up.

And keep getting up.

Every single day.

Stop hitting snooze. Stop fighting your whispers. Stop do***ng on yourself. Stop listening to the haters, the small thinkers, and the road blockers.

And get up.

You've got some work to do.

Meet out Grid member of the month ! Megan always in before over after class working on her mobility! Her favorite movement is cleans for lifting & pull-ups for gymnastics. Her least favorite movement is wall balls. Her favorite food to indulge in is Tacos! She choose Grid because she loves the coaching & programming!
Outside of grid she likes watching movies & being with family.
