Nick Pacheco continued his early-season dominance, scoring two goals and leading the Bishop Stang attack in a 4-1 home win over Old Rochester on Saturday.
Both Pacheco and Ryan Torres had two goals in the second half as the Spartans broke open a scoreless tie at the half.
“We dominated the game in the first half,” coach Ben Figueiredo said. “We played 85 percent on their side of the field.”
The Spartans outshot the Bulldogs 23-8, but couldn’t find the net against Sam Henrie, who made 13 of his 19 saves in the first half.
“We were putting pressure on the ball, but it wasn’t going in so the boys were panicking because we couldn’t find the net,” Figueiredo said. “I told them to relax.”
That led to four second-half goals, the first of which came just two minutes after intermission when Nolan DaRosa found Pacheco for a goal. Eight minutes later, Ryan Torres scored off a Josh Correia assist.
ORR answered with a goal from Alex Sousa two minutes later, but just six minutes after that, Pacheco went by three defenders and chipped the ball over the oncoming goalie for a 3-1 edge. Torres added he final goal off Correia’s second assist.
Matt Doggan made seven saves for the Spartans (2-2-1), who have gotten six goals in five games from Pacheco.
“The kid is just a machine up front,” Figueiredo said of his senior captain “He fights and comes back and gets the ball. There’s already a couple of schools interested in him.”
The Spartans host Somerset Berkley at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
