Southern Indiana Martial Arts Southern Indiana Martial Arts is a martial arts school in New Albany. We focus on Self Defense and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Competition.

If you are reading this, we hope you are wanting to learn more about self defense or more specifically Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art based on grappling concepts. BJJ focuses on using optimal leverage to control and/or effectively defend against an opponent or aggressor. The art focuses on takedowns, positional control and submission holds to stop an attacker or op

ponent. The art includes self defense, sport BJJ and mixed martial arts related training. All of the instructors are ranked under the legendary Fabio Santos, a Rickson Gracie Black Belt. Classes include a brief warm up that includes many fundamental movements used in BJJ, a takedown and/or self defense move followed by ground technique instruction, drills, then ground sparring (rolling). Classes are welcoming and friendly. Instructors try to ensure progressive development to ensure everyone is picking up the skills they need to do each part of the class.

We had belt testing tonight for our adult Judo program. We now have 4 new Judo brown belts and 2 new yellow belts. If you are interested in improving your stand up training, this program is an excellent option.

We will be canceling the Jiu Jitsu class this evening due to the road conditions.

Mr. Back and several others have said they are stuck in traffic and are having trouble getting to the gym due to the snow. We will be starting each of the Taekwondo classes 15 minutes later than normal due to the slow road conditions.

We are having classes this evening. There are still spots in the parking lot and walkway that have snow on it so be careful driving and walking into the gym.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!! We hope everyone has a wonderful day with their family and friends! There will be no Judo tonight but we will have all classes Saturday. Judo students feel free to come to the Saturday classes to for a make up if you want!
