I got a call the other day for a buck hit high with a complete pass through on a morning hunt. Hunter said he had quite a bit of blood and his arrow at the hit sight but didn’t want to push the deer. He made the right call!

We gave the deer some time and I went out that evening (10-12 hours later) to locate. I found him roughly 3/4 of a mile away. He appeared to be doing pretty good and I imagine he will live. The hunter handled everything perfect after the shot by waiting and calling for a drone to help locate. We were able to confirm his shot placement without bumping him.

These animals are so incredibly tough. Large cutting diameter broad heads can be forgiving and help in some instances, but this picture still proves how crucial shot placement is!

I searched for a buck on the 17th of November that was shot the evening before. Hunter thought he might have hit the deer to far forward. He had tons of blood. He called me and decided to have me search. While I covered a ton of ground, I wasn’t able to locate the buck. 3 weeks later he sent me a message and said he got a trail cam picture of the deer still alive. I get fully invested in each recovery and each story that I’m able to be apart of. It’s awesome to get updates from those that have trusted me to help. This is the only deer I haven’t been able to locate dead or alive this season. That puts me at a 94% success rate so far this season.

Had a pretty good first week of guiding rifle hunters in Kansas. We had 12 in camp and all 12 had an opportunity. We can’t use the drone in Kansas but it’s always fun to track sign. My fellow guide is Okie's East Kansas Deer Recovery and we run Oakie if we need too. I haven’t seen a better dog for tracking.
