Got work sufficiently wrapped up last week so I was able to get out on a beautiful little brook trout stream near Truckee today... found it running full and cold but definitely fishable, and it was so nice to connect with a bunch of beautiful little brookies on my first outing of the season!

All the tributaries into Lake Tahoe have a late opening of July 1st, and I was able to spend a couple hours on one of my favorite little creeks on the West shore this morning... water was flowing beautifully under classic blue Tahoe skies, but the fish were unfortunately less than plentiful; those I did find were a bit more inquisitive than hungry for my flies, but I was able to land a few pretty little brookies and one cute little baby rainbow who, after being released, came back to take advantage of and join in the photo op of the next little brook trout I caught!
