Nicolas Jackson, of Glendale, Arizona, has been certified for closing the Captains of Crush No. 3 gripper—congratulations, Nicolas! Nic, age 42 and weighing 265 lb. at 6’ 5”, has been training with CoC grippers for about a year, first trying the CoC No. 2.5. He trains twice a week with grippers and dynamometers, noting: “I began grip training a little over a year ago after my neighbor brought a hand dynamometer over and I maxed it out. Having never thought about grip training, I was surprised to see this result and figured I would look further into it and fell in love with grip training.” A former correctional officer for 15 years in what he called “quite and exciting career,” Nic said, “I decided it was time for a career change in 2021 and currently work in finance for a major medical organization and absolutely love my job.” Nic uses his hands at work doing “a lot of heavy lifting of medical equipment.” Nic says, “I love to garden and grip train and spend quality time with my family, a 14 year old boy and loving wife of 24 years, as well as our 5-year-old Portuguese Podengo dog, Sparky. I also love to collect retro memorabilia, mostly from the 80’s and 90’s. As a devout Christian, I give all glory to God for all my success and am truly thankful for this opportunity.” Nic’s name has been added to the official list of those certified on the Captains of Crush No. 3 gripper https://ironmind.com/product-info/certification/captains-of-crush/whos-who-no.-3-coc/ You can watch Nic’s certification attempt here: https://youtu.be/77DhATZmzcA

16-year old Ace Gustin (USA) broke the world record for the Teenage Max Weight Rolling Thunder Pull-up with a successful 99.74 kg (219.90 lb.) effort. https://ironmind.com/product-info/certification/rolling-thunder/rules-and-world-records-00001/ Ace Gustin is 6’ 2” (about 188 cm) tall and weighs 180 lb. (about 82 kg). “I've been competing in grip sports with my dad since 2020 in the King Kong international competition,” Gustin told IronMind. “I've never been extremely into weightlifting, but I do play basketball and football so I work out for those sports. During those workouts and this pull-up I like listening to loud music because it pumps me up more. I feel like farming, working on engines, and splitting wood have really helped my grip strength because I'm using my hands so much. I enjoy grip strength sports because it's so much of having usable strength and just giving it your all,” Gustin said. 47-year old emergency room (ER) physician Chad Gustin (USA) has smashed through the 400-lb. barrier and recaptured the Men’s Two-Arm Max Weight Rolling Thunder® World Record with a lift of 182.89 kg (403. 2 lb.). https://ironmind.com/product-info/certification/rolling-thunder/rules-and-world-records-00001/ Dr. Gustin is 6’ 5” tall (about 196 cm) and weighs 265 lb. (about 120 kg). He noted, “Throughout my years of competing in Scottish Highland Games as a professional athlete and then moving to grip sport, my motivation for success has always been my children. I suppose that is from a deep human desire that most people have to show their kids what they were capable of in their prime that might be lost to time. . . . I was lucky enough to have a father who showed me that a man must have all three attributes of the triangle (mental/physical/spiritual) to be complete and to be able to take care of his family and community. As human beings, none of us is invincible and must give thanks to God for the blessings we have and cherish the time we have with loved ones. . . . All these years I was blessed to have my children see me succeed at times but also fail countless more times and fall down but keep getting back up because that is how life is, and the most important lesson to pass on is to keep moving forward in the face of adversity. As a parent (and ER doctor) I want to prepare my kids for all of life's challenges but know there will be things nobody could have expected—when that happens I want my kids to remember John 3:16, ‘In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.’ When my daughter was filming me for this new record last week and I kept apologizing to my wife and her about disrupting their day, my teenage daughter said to me, ‘Take your time Dad—I think it is really cool you still do stuff like this!’ Special thanks to Ben Edwards (CoC3 ’05) for being the referee and also for his training advice and motivation. Thank you also to my very patient and loving wife, Amy, and my two great children, Ace and Elle! Thank you Ironmind for this opportunity,” Dr. Gustin said. Congratulations, Chad! Maxim Shebunyaev, of Khimki, Russia, has been certified for closing the Captains of Crush No. 3 gripper! https://ironmind.com/product-info/certification/captains-of-crush/whos-who-no.-3-coc/ Maxim is the second teenager in the past month to certify, at 17 years old, and he weighs 84 kg (185 lb.) standing 190 cm (6’ 3”). Maxim has been training with Captains of Crush grippers for about six months. The CoC No. 3 was the first gripper he tried, closing it “a few weeks later.” With hobbies of arm wrestling and grip training, Maxim says: “Grip allows you to better control your opponent.” His training is once a week, usually with [grippers] and armlifting equipment. Maxim added this background, “I was born in the village of Kalinovka to an ordinary family where no one played sports. From the ages of two to eight, I lived in the village with my grandmother. Later, around age 13, when I moved to the city, I gradually became interested in sports. I discovered grippers a little later, around 15 or 16. I don’t have any interesting history related to sports, and my path hasn’t been difficult. I just love [grippers].” Currently studying to be a physical education teacher in college, Maxim notes that: “Although I have only recently started practicing my grip, I have already achieved a strength of 144.7 kg on a dynamometer and hope to obtain my CoC No. 3.5 certification soon.” Congratulations, Maxim! Your name has been added to the official certification list as well as the teenage certification list found here https://ironmind.com/product-info/certification/captains-of-crush/rules-for-closing-certification/ You can watch Maxim on his certification attempt here: https://youtu.be/urzioESJ6Iw

Teenager Joey (HanRui) Wang of Castle Hill, Australia, has been certified for officially closing the Captains of Crush No. 3 gripper https://ironmind.com/product-info/certification/captains-of-crush/whos-who-no.-3-coc/ Joey is just 16 years old! He weighs 110 kg (243 lb.) standing 183 cm (6’ 0”) and started training in the fall of 2025. Joey noted that he “came across Captains of Crush grippers online after I ruptured my Achilles tendon while training for a competition, which led me to look more into grip training.” Joey says, “The first ever CoC gripper I closed was [in January] when I unofficially credit card set a CoC No. 3. I was surprised.” Joey’s training routine includes Monday, thick bars and wrist; Wednesday, legs and core; and Friday, crush and pinch, and he adds that “my training is inconsistent and illogical. I’m just getting some input from many grip athletes and tweaking my plan as I go.” As background, Joey was born in Beijing, China, and his family migrated to Australia when he was a child: “I was always considered big, with strength well above others who were older than I.” Currently a snowboarding coach in Australia during school holidays, Joey says, “I enjoy lifting weights for fun and training . . . I’ve also been fascinated by the grip community [as] many gripsters offer suggestions, advice, and equipment without expecting anything in return. It’s a great environment for younger grip athletes to grow in. Joey’s goals? “I’m not someone who likes to talk big, but I think I can reach closing a CoC No. 3.5.” Congratulations, Joey, we hope your grip passion continues and look forward to meeting you again!

Daniel Brechmann, of Bochum, Germany, has been officially certified on the Captains of Crush No. 3 gripper! Daniel, who is 39 years old and stands 6’ 4” at 225 lb., started training with CoC grippers in 2023, with some sports-store grippers—"I was a bit disappointed with the feel and resistance of those”—and then got a CoC No. 2.5 and No. 3, and closed the No. 2.5 right away, with the No. 3 a few weeks later. Daniel says he trains grip “almost every day, varying thick bar, pinch and grippers. With [grippers] I tend to mix parallel set, credit card set and no set closes, performing a couple of each once or twice a week. I also like to experiment with training regimens and set challenges. For instance, I lifted a 78-kg Inch bell every day for 100 days straight and got up to 21 reps that way.” A high school teacher of English, German and Latin, Daniel uses his grip strength in his hobby of bouldering, house renovations and “DIY kinds of stuff.” He is “really into sports, such as powerlifting,” and is also a trained coach and teaches bouldering classes and runs a powerlifting club for his students at school, noting, “I’ve found that it really helps with general motivational aspects of school and learning, a real benefit for my students.” He has also “been lifting weights on and off most my adult life and I enjoy road cycling.” Daniel says he has achieved his first grip goals quite quickly, lifting an original Fatman Blob and a Thomas Inch dumbbell and closing a CoC No. 3 gripper within his first six months of grip sports. He adds, “In my second year, I did some more elite feats, such as closing CoC No. 3.5s, double Inch lift, combo lifts (e.g., an Inch / CoC #3 combo, which I particularly liked), double No. 3 no set close, lifting the Holle 30 blob as the 7th person in the world, and a proper deep dish 45-lb. plate pinch. These feats [were] achieved with the support of members of the grip community, especially Florian Kellersmann (CoC3 ’04), with whom I train occasionally, and also Carl-August Mertz (CoC3 ’15), who gave me a lot of useful advice. My wife and daughter are very supportive of my goals, too. Further grip goals include certifying on the CoC No. 3.5 and closing CoC No. 4, which is WAY down the road. I also hope to certify the IronMind Red Nail and to lift heavier Inch bells. Congratulations, Daniel: your name has been added to the official list: https://ironmind.com/product-info/certification/captains-of-crush/whos-who-no.-3-coc/ You can watch Daniel in his certification attempt here: https://youtu.be/LtL4lu4-o3o
