Hugh will be working as a Personal Trainer and Small Group Personal Training class instructor.

Hugh M. Talman, PTA, Polestar Pilates-trained

Hugh’s professional experience in the field of exercise started when he became a personal trainer 20+ years ago, which led him to become a certified Medical Exercise Specialist and this in turn led to the transition into the profession of Physical Therapy.

He has worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant for the past 10 years and has now gained the valuable experience and knowledge that comes from working with people in pain and dealing with various orthopedic injuries. Along the way he added his comprehensive training in the method of Pilates, which prepared him to more effectively observe and account for muscular imbalances and poor postural habits, then address them through a clinical care plan. He enjoys the natural integration of Pilates movement principles with injury rehabilitation, as well as the mindful movement approach of Pilates method into overall fitness. Hugh’s Physical Therapy skillset allows for the inclusion of hands-on manual therapy.

Hugh emphasizes the importance of a balance between strength, stability, flexibility and mobility. He strives to provide detailed movement education to help the client appreciate the mechanical nature of the human body. This movement education includes what he refers to as a ‘Make-Posture-Habit’ mentality that helps to develop postural awareness and strategies to carry-over to exercise, work and life.

Since being involved professionally with the exercise and Physical Therapy fields for the past 20+ years, he has grown to understand the importance of applying these principles in his own life. He also hopes to help people bring more awareness of their bodies through the exercise sessions, helping them achieve mindful movement with a strong foundation at their core that will last a lifetime. Hugh looks for every opportunity to spend quality time with his wife and three kids, coaching his kids in sports and nurturing healthy habits and an active lifestyle.

It’s amazing to see my parents both now in their 70s continue to join in on pretty much every adventure we go on as a family.

I say amazing but, when I think about it, they have been working out consistently ever since I moved back to Nevada County.

In 2012 I opened Fit Culture Studio with the goal to help people build a body that works, a body that feels comfortable saying yes to doing the things you love.

It’s an amazing experience for our family to go on so many fun adventures together and we continue to look forward to many more in years to come. My kids love that they get to spend time with their parents and grandparents enjoying all that life has to offer.

Basketball and Ski season coming to an end and baseball/softball starts. I love watching my kiddos having fun, growing and making friends. Nothing is better than that.
