This buck was brought to me for some repair work. The mount had fallen off the wall and the left antler broke off just a few inches past the brow tine. It had been repaired once before, which actually made lining up the pieces quite a challenge. So I ground down some of the high spots inside the antler and epoxied the antler back in place, using wire ties and a pipe clamp to hold it in place. Next, I sculpted the juncture and missing pieces, detailed and sanded the sculpted parts, then painted with oil paints. The positioning of the ear made this a little difficult, but with a little patience, I made it work. If you look closely, you can still see the shine of the oil paints. But once they're dry and I've sealed it up with matte finish, it should be just about impossible to tell. Really happy with how this piece turned out.

The finished product and how we got here. "Odin" was shot in archery season in either 2016 or 2017. Estimated to be 6 1/2 years old at the time, this was a special deer to the customer. Sadly, the buck was not found until the late summer of 2020. At that point, the elements and the critters had done a real number on his rack and skull. So I was tasked with restoring him to his former glory.
