Speaker Spotlight 🏔️ Ryan Montgomery is joining the USTRC lineup!

Ryan (he/they) is a professional ultra trail runner and an out, q***r advocate for inclusion in the sport, with a focus on creating space for non-binary athletes. Over a decade of racing at the ultra distance, a 100 mile PR of 12:59, and a 3rd place finish at Western States 2026 in sub-14 hours.

He’s also the founder of Out Trails, a community for q***r trail runners across the U.S., and has consulted with race organizations including UTMB on inclusive policy. Before the outdoor industry, Ryan built a career in tech, and he recently completed his MBA at Tuck (Dartmouth). He lives in Park City, UT.

At USTRC, Ryan will moderate the panel “Race Sponsors & Other Revenue Streams” and join the panel “Building a More Inclusive Race Community.”

We’re thrilled to announce two incredible additions to our Keynote Speaker lineup: Sally McRae and Craig Thornley, joining us for “Leading with Purpose” 🏔️

Sally McRae is a professional endurance athlete, author of Choose Strong, and Badwater 135 Champion, Moab 240 winner, and Triple Crown of 200s Champion, with two Top 10 finishes at Western States 100. Beyond racing, she’s built a platform around resilience and leading with heart, empowering athletes, individuals, and brands through her films, book, podcast, and speaking.

Craig Thornley is the longtime race director of the Western States 100, co-founder and director of Waldo 100K, and a veteran of over 100 ultras (including 18 100-milers). With 25+ years in trail work and nonprofit leadership, he brings a grounded, hands-on perspective on what it takes to lead a community for the long haul.

Together, they’ll dig into what leadership really looks like on the trail, in business, and in life.

USTRC Speaker Spotlight 🌟YoFit•Running

The outdoors should be for everyone. But for many people, the path to the trailhead is blocked by barriers that have nothing to do with desire and everything to do with access, safety, and belonging.

Yolanda López Haugabook is the Co-Founder of Sin Miedo, a BIPOC trail running community built to change exactly that. Through a community-led model, Sin Miedo equips first-time trail runners with the knowledge, relationships, and support to become lifelong participants in the outdoors. Yolanda is also the founder of YoFit, a trauma-informed wellness practice rooted in the belief that when barriers are removed, people gain the confidence to move more freely through their lives and communities.

She'll be joining the panel for Building a More Inclusive Race Community at the 2026 USTRC, and she's proof that inclusion isn't just possible. It's buildable.

From remote mountain hundreds to short community races - Carrie Baris has directed it all.

Carrie is the Race Director of Hellbender 100, co-Race Director of The Firefly Run, and organizer of several smaller races near Asheville, NC. She's also a board member of the Run828 Foundation, a leader of North Carolina Mountain Trail Runners, her local Trail Sisters chapter, and a certified crosscut sawyer working toward her chainsaw certification.

She'll be joining the panel for Medical Guidelines for Every Size Race at the 2026 USTRC - and yes, she means every size.
