Fall is a great time for your ISR skilled fishy to come back for Maintenance or Refresher lessons! 🐠 But what are these lessons all about and when should you come back for them?

Maintenance Lessons are singular lessons for students who have completed ISR within the last 3 months or so. Bringing your child for consistent maintenance lessons will help to keep their confidence up & prevent their skills from getting rusty as their bodies grow (and we all know kids grow FAST!) These lessons are particularly useful for families in areas with colder seasons whose children have less opportunities to practice recreationally.

Refresher Lessons are daily, consecutive lessons typically booked in 1-2 week long increments. These are great for students who have completed ISR lessons in the last 6-12 months and need to tighten their skills back up to match their new heavier, longer body! Refreshers are also ideal for children who may take some time to warm back up to coming to lessons with their Instructor...it's amazing to see their confidence rise after a few days back to lessons.

You invest time and money into your child's initial learning, and they work so hard to master their skills! Taking advantage of Maintenance & Refresher opportunities as your instructor offers them is a great way to protect that investment and also ensure your child's skills are sharp should they ever unexpectedly need to use them!

So last summer I splurged on these amazing rafts called Fluzzle Tube and we highly recommend these for fun at the pool!

The mesh bottom version called the Fluzzle 3.0, is perfect for kids of any skill level (OF COURSE YOU’LL ALWAYS BE IN ARMS’ REACH 🧐)

Fluzzletubes worked great for our strong and skilled swimmers because unlike a regular tube, they do not allow the kids to “dangle” their legs into the water. We passionately believe that when any part of our kids’ bodies are underwater they should be the ones doing the work to stay afloat, or, they should be in the arms of a trusted adult. This means we do not believe in using any floatation that allows kids to be held in a vertical position, like a typical inner tube, puddle jumpers, floaties, etc. as these create a false sense of security as well as bad habits that cause efficient swim skills to break down.

As strong as our kids are in the pool, sometimes they need a break, and for us, floaties just aren’t an option. The kids feel independent in their comfy tubes but we are always within arms’ reach (sometimes we even clip our own tube onto theirs so we can relax while staying nearby and keeping eyes on.)

Using these tubes under our supervision gave the kids a chance to learn how to safely play with rafts. They learned to first ask, then look before they jump off, take turns jumping, swim out from under a raft that floated over their heads & more. Honestly, it was a lot of hands on supervision & direction at first, but I’m so glad they got to learn how to navigate these situations with me, instead of at a big kid pool party.

I wish we knew about these when we had babies and developing swimmers. These would have been an awesome place for littler ones to take a break with a few toys (I’ll say it one more time- we’d always be in arms reach).

We haven’t tried these on our choppy lake yet, but we will add life jackets to the mix when we do. I’ve also used life jackets in tubes like this on crowded lazy rivers.
