Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball

Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball These programs are designed to provide history in a fun as well as educational manner; develop team-building skills; and/or for pure entertainment.

The Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball promotes living history by bringing the 19th century to life through base ball events that use the rules, equipment, costumes and culture of the 1860s. We provide cultural enrichment and education programs and activities to youth and adults that emphasize honor, team play, respectful conduct and community pride. Our goal is to exemplify to youth and adults alike the values that are lacking in modern-day athletic programs, and encourage a sense of belonging regardless of race, gender, religious conviction or physical ability. What We Do
In addition to monthly living history events during the playing season, demonstrations and workshops for youth and senior groups, museums, historical societies, corporations and others year-round. Should you care to have two teams play an exhibition game at your event, we will work with you to schedule such an event. If you would like to learn more about these services, please contact us.

’Twas the night before the Sulphur Dell Cup, and all through the league,
Not a player was stirring—no spikes, no fatigue.
The uniforms hung by their gear bags with care,
In hopes that the Sulphur Dell Cup soon would be there.

The Grasshoppers slept sound in their beds,
While visions of quick hops danced round in their heads.
From river to ridges their spirits ran still—
For tomorrow they'd leap beneath bright Spring Hill.

The Quicksteps were quiet, their feet taking rest,
For tomorrow they’d prove they were truly the best.
The Farriers had polished each hammer and shoe,
Preparing their craft for a victory or two.

And Mountain City lay nestled high up in the hills,
Dreaming of base hits and old-timey thrills.
Fleet-footed Lightfoot lads slept light as the breeze,
Their strides full of grace, moving swift with ease.
No stealing tomorrow—just honest, fair play—
With Lightfoot precision to guide every fray.

The fiery Phoenix dreamed of rising once more,
Determined to soar like they’d never before.
The Scouts kept watch with a vigilant eye,
Mapping each play ‘neath the Tennessee sky.

The Resolutes rested firm, unwavering and stout,
Knowing resolve is what vintage’s about.
The proud Cumberland nine slept near their old trail,
Ready to ride in with a victory tale.

The Maroons dreamed boldly in crimson-toned light,
Preparing to battle with all of their might.
And the Knoxvilles—historic, steadfast, and true—
Dreamed of the Dell, and the cheers that would brew.

Then out on the field there arose such a clatter,
Each team sprang awake to see what was the matter.
They rushed to the diamond, hearts starting to swell—
For tomorrow they’d play for the Sulphur Dell Cup as well.

The bases were chalked with meticulous care,
The outfield lay waiting in cool evening air.
And each club knew, as they gazed on the ground,
That history echoes wherever it’s found.

So rest, Tennessee ballists, your moment is near—
The Sulphur Dell Cup calls with its glory and cheer.
And when dawn arrives with its warm southern light,
Let vintage base ball shine proud in its fight.

For those concerned about whether your Hog & Hominy Picked 9 made it to Columbus, the answer is yes! We completed a fine day of base ball where we tallied some aces and also had some aces tallied against us.

We have also picked up a wayward child, and have decided to call him bullpen. Against the better judgement of some, we have left him in the care of Taylormade.

Huzzah!

Country Bumpkin and Flynn Ryder are enjoying their time in Ohio, wondering where the rest of their teammates are. It seems they have not fallen prey to the same misfortunes the rest of the Hogs & Hominy Picked Nine have.

On his way to the Ohio Cup, Little Brother fell victim to a riverboat gambler in the Queen City! So confident in his hand, he wagered his trusty horse Phoenix. Lets hope he sees a little bit more luck this weekend on the ball field!
