We had two teams compete this past weekend in the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Commissioners Cup Invitational on Lake Hamilton!

Fishing conditions were tough for much of the field, but our anglers battled hard and represented our program well against 49 teams in the High School division, finishing 24th and 25th overall.

Scrappers showed out this weekend at Lake Degray during the Arkansas High School Bassers event.

Our two teams were Garrett Westfall/ Halton Howard and Andrew Reese/ Wyatt Chesshir.

Howard/Westfall earned third place in the HS division with a limit of bass for 14.5 lbs. These guys have been in a slump and had a great event to get out of it before our upcoming state tournaments.

The Nashville Scrapper Fishing Team had two teams competing this past Saturday in the Arkansas Youth Bass Nation – Central Series event at Lake Millwood.

Fishing was tough across the board, and the newly implemented 15-inch slot limit made things even more challenging. Our anglers battled hard against 21 teams from all over the state and showed a lot of grit on a difficult fishery.

Wyatt Chesshir & Andrew Reese brought in 4 fish weighing 8.47 lbs, earning a strong 7th place finish!

Halton Howard & Garrett Westfall stayed after it all day and landed 1 fish weighing 2.6 lbs.

Proud of the effort, determination, and sportsmanship from all our guys this weekend

Congratulations to our Scrapper anglers, Halton Howard and Walker Chesshir, on an outstanding 4th place finish at the Futrell Marine Nashville IKON Winter Series!

This was a full adult tournament, not a high school event — and Walker and Halton were the youngest team in the field, competing against seasoned anglers, local legends, professional anglers and then including several father/son and father/daughter teams.

Walker, a former Scrapper, is now a freshman at the University of Arkansas, while Halton is still proudly representing Nashville as a sophomore.

They brought in a strong five-fish limit weighing 14.03 pounds, earning 4th place out of 49 boats — an impressive accomplishment by any standard.

To top it off, they admitted that one of the highlights of the day was beating Coach Howard and Coach E in the tournament — a memory they’ll never forget.

Halton Howard and Garrett Westfall earned 2nd place Saturday at the recent Ark-La-Tex Student Angler Federation
Trader Bill’s High School Trail with a limit of bass for 16.41 lbs!

The anglers were looking forward to the event but the bite was tough! Team Howard/Westfall prevailed.

Team Wyatt Chesshir and Andrew Reece also represented the Scrappers.

We had a great time at the 2nd annual River Ranch Youth Hunt and Fishing tournament fundraising event!

This special event is designed to foster a love for wildlife conservation, ethical hunting and fishing practices among the next generation of hunters and anglers, all while supporting our dedicated Arkansas Game Wardens.

Our student anglers got to participate in a tournament where they competed for most fish caught and big bass caught in a three hour session.

The Scrappers had 10 student anglers show up to compete! Andrew Reese was the leader with 12 bass caught while Richard Bohn caught the biggest bass weighing 5.3lbs, a new personal best.

Our student anglers, coaches, volunteers, and parents/ guardians had a great time at the event. We all want to say thank you to Futrell Marine Nashville and York Gary Autoplex York Gary Autoplex for sponsoring the event and letting us be apart.

We are going to have our first fishing meeting of the school year August 27th at 5 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Insurance Office - Board Room.

We will go over the upcoming schedules from the different High school fishing trails.

Mark your calendar for the 2nd Annual River Ranch Mentor Hunt/ Fish Event that will be October the 4th.

In preparing for the Student Angler Federation (SAF) - High School Fishing World Finals there was a lot of unknown going into the event. The Scrappers were faced with a new lake and conditions that Mother Nature has that is not normal. As they discussed it would level the history of the lake for the locals and of course all the teams were faced with the challenge.

Grand Lake in the last month has fluctuated from 8-10 ft. high. They have opened the gates of the dam and closed em. The lake has not been at its normal pool for long for most of the recent months.

This did not stop Garrett Westfall and Halton Howard as they earned the 8th place spot out of 370 plus teams in the World Finals! There were teams from across the USA at this event and even teams from other countries!

The freshman duo had a great week on the water. They executed, fish cleaned, and fished hard as the summer heat finally showed up with along some summer storms.

Garrett and Halton want to thank the school, the community, and both parents for their support in the sport of bass fishing. This accomplishment started years ago with so much time on the water and tournament experience they have got to go through.

One last thanks from both Garrett and Halton is for their boat captain Michael Howard. They are thankful for the time Michael has taken to take them out, travel, and be there to coach them.
