In 1967, Kathrine Switzer made history by becoming the first woman to run the Boston Marathon with an official race number. She did so despite the efforts the race director to remove her from the course. Switzer became a crusader for women’s sports, a journalist, an author, and a TV commentator. She won the 1974 New York City Marathon and led the effort to include the women’s marathon in the Olympic event.
