With the spring run winding down, and the bass settling into their summering grounds, this is our final Striper Migration Map of 2026. The weekend’s full moon should move around some stripers, with another wave of fish expected to move into areas like Cape Cod, Boston Harbor, and Block Island. After that, striper fishermen will be left to learn the summer routines of their resident fish until the cold winds and shortening days of fall drive them back south.

New Striped Bass TOTAL LENGTH Definition
Starting May 17, 2026, a new way of measuring striped bass went into effect for both commercial and recreational fisheries. Instead of the traditional method, total length for striped bass is now measured in inches as the greatest straight-line distance from the tip of the jaw (or snout) to the farthest tip of the tail, with the upper and lower fork of the tail squeezed together.

Use the example below of how to properly measure your fish and determine whether it falls within the 28” to under 31” slot limit.

The updated total length definition is an Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) compliance requirement under Addendum III to Amendment 7 of the Atlantic Striped Bass Fishery Management Plan.

Boy is that a fluke, Summer fishing patterns are settling in across the Mid-Atlantic, and anglers have no shortage of options. Keeper fluke action continues to improve from Long Island through New Jersey, striped bass remain available with better bites concentrated farther east and around structure, and sea bass, porgies, and other summer species are filling coolers. Farther south, Chesapeake anglers are finding a mix of opportunities as warming water opens up new patterns heading into late June. Call Capt. Dave 401-499-9182

The striped bass migration remains spread across the Northeast, and the new moon tides sparked hot action across New England, with standout fishing around Montauk, Block Island, and Long Island Sound. As the spring run winds down in the Chesapeake and the final waves of migratory fish push out of New Jersey, anglers farther north are capitalizing on short but productive windows as schools of bass move through in search of dense bait concentrations.
