HURRY, HURRH HURRY, they'll be gone before you know it. The striped bass migration remains spread across the Northeast, and the new moon tides sparked hot action across New England, with standout fishing around Montauk, Block Island, and Long Island Sound. As the spring run winds down in the Chesapeake and the final waves of migratory fish push out of New Jersey, anglers farther north are capitalizing on short but productive windows as schools of bass move through in search of dense bait concentrations.

In Week 13 of our 2026 Striper Migration Reports, Matt Haeffner and Johnny McIntyre cover the influx of shortfin squid from Rhode Island to Cape Cod Bay before discussing the mix of bunker, mackerel, and sea herring in Boston Harbor, and the implications of a strong summer sand eel run from Massachusetts to Maine.

It's the final days of the spring migration for Maryland and New Jersey, where stripers are only just beginning to settle into summer locations and patterns. Meanwhile, with spawned-out bass still exiting the Hudson River and a new moon this Sunday, anglers from Long Island Sound to Maine have some very good fishing to look forward to.

Big Stripers Hanging Around
Striped bass remain the headline attraction from Long Island to the Jersey Shore, with bluefish providing fast action along beaches and inlets. Fluke fishing is gaining momentum in bays, rivers, and nearshore waters, while sea bass fishing has improved significantly on offshore structure.

ABOVE: Big bass are holding tight to sparse bunker pods and hitting large topwater plugs as they move east in Long Island Sound.

What's happening today... The spring migration is at its absolute peak, transforming the waters surrounding this teardrop-shaped island into a world-class striper haven. We are seeing an incredibly healthy mix of fish, ranging from aggressive school-sized bass to true 40-plus-pound cow stripers. Because the island sits perfectly in the epicenter of the Atlantic migratory route, cooler ocean waters sustain this bite long after the shallow mainland estuaries have grown too warm. The fish are aggressively ambushing bait pushed up against the island's rocky shoreline, submerged ledges, and dynamic rips.
