Genetics help shape your personality, and those same genes reverberate throughout your life. Researchers found that more than 1,200 different genetic variants are linked to personality traits. What’s more, those personality genetics are linked to dozens of different paths taken throughout a person’s life, including health, education, career and parenthood. There’s no single personality gene, but personality traits are associated with many genetic variants. Further, they found that the genetic variants that predict personality also partially predict a person’s mental or physical health, longevity, education, career path and decision to become a parent, among other things.

You don’t need a lot of faith to be a great Christian—because it’s not the size of your faith that makes the difference. What matters is where you put your faith. You just need a little faith in a big God. No matter how weak or frail you think your faith is, it’s enough to get you through, because God is able to accomplish far more in your life than you could ever imagine. Every little step you take toward Christ moves you further away from doubt, discouragement, and despair. Matthew 17:20 (NIV) says, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Restaurants make food that make you want to return, and especially make you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth. That means big portions and rich ingredients which result in delicious meals that can also be sky-high, calorie-wise. Applebee’s Oriental Chicken Salad is described as fried chicken on greens. This salad is 1550 calories! The Cheesecake Factory’s BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad is a whopping 1950 calories, and their Santa Fe Salad is 1670 calories. Chili’s Quesadilla Explosion Crispers® Salad is 1420 calories, and that doesn’t include sides like fries. These salads can contain an entire day’s worth of calories at one meal.

Today, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City. Many Americans celebrate Labor Day with parties – and the unofficial end to summer.

God gives you a choice. He doesn’t force you to make an impact with your life. But, He wired you to give yourself away. God wants you to give your life away in helping other people, encouraging other people, and using your talents to bless other people. You can be a tool in the hands of God to make a difference in this world. Romans 6:13 ( TLB) says, “Give yourselves completely to God—every part of you—to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes.”

If you experience solar urticaria, your skin develops hives within minutes of being touched by the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Heat urticaria causes the same itchy welts immediately following exposure to heat. Hives are one of the body’s responses to histamine, a chemical released from mast cells and basophils (cells in the blood) in response to a trigger. When histamine is released, histamine receptors respond in various ways, including inflammatory reactions like swollen skin (hives). If sun and heat give you hives, try wearing a hat and UV-protective clothing, and applying sufficient SPF sunscreen to exposed skin before going outside. Or, you can use antihistamines. If the severity or frequency of hives is affecting your quality of life, you may consider seeing a dermatologist.

According to a report released by the National Coffee Association, 66% of American adults drink coffee each day. For many of them, a cup of coffee is the first thing they reach for in the morning, prior to eating any food. The most active ingredient is caffeine, and it stimulates the brain. A FEW studies have suggested that enjoying coffee might lower the risk of certain conditions like diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson’s disease, and possibly fatty liver disease when compared to those who don’t drink coffee. However, if you like a cup of the unfiltered stuff, like Turkish or French press, it’s good to know that these brews have compounds that can raise bad cholesterol levels. But remember, caffeine is quickly and completely absorbed by your stomach, and if you drink it on an empty stomach, you might feel its effects more intensely.

An expression of gratitude is a way of honoring another person. The Bible says that you also honor God when you express gratitude to him. God says this in Psalm 50: “Giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me” (Psalm 50:23 NLT). You must learn to thank God not just for what he does but for who he is. When you thank God for who he is, your prayer might go something like this: “God, thank you that your wisdom is greater than mine. Thank you that even when I don’t understand something, you have my best interest at heart.” That’s the kind of gratitude that honors God and gives you deeper spiritual roots.

The immune system is the body’s standing army. It is a vast network that distinguishes self from invaders, remembers old enemies, repairs damaged tissues, and clears out cells that have become dangerous. With age, that army does not simply shrink; it changes character. It responds more slowly to new threats, more quickly to inflammation, and is less reliable in what it remembers. Scientists call this slow transformation “immunosenescence.” Although immunosenescence can not be stopped, much that can effectively slow the aging of our immune system is within reach. A diet rich in fiber and fermented foods feeds the gut bacteria that help train immune cells—fiber nourishes the microbes already there, while fermented foods add live microbes that diversify the microbiome and help calibrate immune responses. Regular, moderate exercise measurably sharpens immune surveillance.

The global rate of obesity has increased massively over the past few decades, bringing elevated risks for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. The human brain plays a central role in regulating our energy balance, deciding when we feel hungry and when we feel full. Food acts as a natural reward, and the neurotransmitter dopamine is a primary driver of this system. When we eat highly palatable foods like sweets, dopamine is released into the microscopic gaps between our brain cells. Researchers have proposed that obesity might be linked to irregularities in this dopamine system. If a spike in blood sugar prompts the brain to rapidly deploy dopamine transporters, those transporters will quickly vacuum up the available dopamine. This rapid removal would abruptly end the rewarding sensation of the treat.
