INTO THE WIND (Headwind)
-Club up 2–3 clubs to account for lost distance.
-Move the ball slightly back in your stance to lower launch.
-Favor your lead foot with about 60% of your weight forward.
-Grip down an inch for more control.
-Swing at 75–80% speed. Swinging harder adds spin and can cause the ball to balloon.
-Finish low and controlled with a shorter follow-through.

WITH THE WIND (Tailwind)
-Play for extra distance as the wind helps carry the ball.
-Use less club when the wind is adding significant yardage.
-Consider your landing area. Lower spin can change how the ball lands and rolls.
-Take advantage of the wind with your normal, balanced swing.

ACROSS THE WIND (Crosswind)
-Aim into the wind and allow the ball to drift toward your target.
-Start on the upwind side to give yourself room for the wind to move the ball.
-Play your natural shot shape rather than forcing a draw or fade.
-Avoid aiming toward hazards where a gust could exaggerate your miss.
-Commit to your target line and maintain a smooth, balanced swing.

Driver isn’t always the best club to pull out of the bag. 🏌️‍♂️
Why? Sometimes the smarter play is the better play. Know your distance, your target, and the shot you need to hit.

Dial in the short game with the "Clock Method." ⏰
Instead of changing swing speed, change backswing length by matching the lead arm to a clock face (7:30, 9:00, 10:30). Same tempo, different distances.

Seth and Cynthia started taking lesson with Tim Kjaer in October 2017. Seth was shooting 92-98 and Cynthia was a new golfer but ready and eager to learn. They have both been diligent in maintaining a consistent schedule while practicing and playing between lessons. Both Seth and Cynthia were custom-fit for new clubs during their TECFIT sessions and to enhance their game and are now using clubs that fit their swings well. This season, Seth shot a career low of 82 for 18 holes and shot 38 twice for nine holes while also carding his first-ever eagle! Seth and Cynthia are true GOLFTEC success stories because of their hard work and we're happy to highlight their progression!

When he came to GOLFTEC for the first time in 2016, Al was a total beginner and was looking to learn the basics. Within the first few minutes of his Initial Swing Evaluation, Mike Rodriguez noticed his positive attitude and willingness to learn. After nearly two years of consistent lessons, Al is playing very well and recently went through a TECFIT clubfitting with Mike to get his equipment properly fit. Al puts in the time in the practice bay between his lessons to reinforce the swing changes and has had to identify and reach for new goals as a result! Al is a great example of a student putting in the effort to enjoy the game more and more every day.

"So cool to share a photo with one of my favorite students! Chuck came to GOLFTEC as a handicap index of 20 and set the goal of breaking 90. Not only have we gotten his index down to 12, Chuck has broken his personal best score. His new goal is to get into the single-digits within the next year!"- GOLFTEC Coach Mike Rodriguez

2016 Chicago Pro Am Summary

A balmy fall day in Chicago greeted the participants of the 15th Annual Chicago GolfTEC Pro Am. JC Linthicum and Leon Mitchell shot even par 27 to tie for the low amateur award, with JC taking home the hardware with a chip off win. JC and Leon were joined in the shootout under the lights by AJ Michalowicz, Erik Spracklen, Geoffrey Wharton, Uli Lohrman, Josh Barr, Bill Altier, Kevin Eck, and Roland Ruivivar. The competition was as close as ever, as we had 16 participants in chip off’s in the first three holes of the shoot-out, highlighted by the first ever play off chip in by Geoffrey Wharton.

The final four came down to Josh, Erik, Uli and Roland. Josh was eliminated first, as he failed to make par. Erik was eliminated in a chip off next after all 3 remaining players made par. The final hole pitted Uli against Roland. Roland had the tee and pulled his tee shot left of the green. Uli proceeded to hit the middle of the green. Roland hit a nice chip to 4 feet, while Uli’s lag putt couldn’t get closer. Uli lipped out his par putt and Roland buried his par putt to win! Great playing Roland – he was 2 under par for the 7 holes of the shoot out!

The team competition saw a two horse race emerge. Luther Abernethy of Oak Brook and his team of Rick Sleckman, Dale Saari, Mike Jochcum and Jason Nash shot six under par to hold on for two stroke win. Kurt Kollmeyer’s team of Erik Spracklen, Josh Barr, JD Sun and John Schaefer finished runner up at 4 under par. The low pro award this year was a tie between Luther Abernethy and James Standhardt.

Thank you to all who participated and made the 15th Annual Chicago Pro Am a great day of golf and fun!
