My top 7️⃣ cures for morning sickness!
Smiling through the pain… 😬
Flashback to July in beautiful Paia, Maui. 8 weeks pregnant and oh so sick! I was down 5 lbs already (I would lose about 10 in total during my first trimester), and I had strong aversions to almost every food I used to love.
Being a health + wellness coach, I was freaking out a bit. How am I going get the nutrients I need? Is my baby going to be ok if all I haven’t touched anything green in two months and all I want to eat is cold cereal?!
In a word, yes. It's true that a lot of crucial stuff goes down during the first trimester. All of baby’s major organ systems are developing at this time - the neural tube, which forms the spinal cord + brain, the digestive system, the lungs, the heart. The good news: your little one is still very tiny and not relying on your food intake for its nourishment right now. Your baby is receiving everything it needs from your body and its nutrient stores.
✨Here are some of the remedies that worked for me - pass on to anyone in your life going through their first trimester! ✨
1️⃣ Sea bands - they really work! You can wear them 24/7
2️⃣ Sipping ice water all day long
3️⃣ Eating small meals throughout the day, never getting too full or too hungry
4️⃣ Essential oils - peppermint + lemon help cut through the nausea. I would diffuse in my house & keep a bottle in my purse to breathe in when on the go
5️⃣ Ginger - Gin Gins, ginger tea, half sparkling water/half gingerale
6️⃣ Vitamin B6 (your healthcare provider may recommend a combo of B6 and unisom for particularly bad nausea, please consult your doctor before taking)
7️⃣ Giving myself a break! To be honest, the above remedies took the edge off but nothing actually cured my nausea. The best thing did for myself was chill out, rest, and not add any more stress by worrying about what I could and couldn’t eat. My mantra morning, noon and night was THIS TOO SHALL PASS. And it did! Around 14 weeks, like magic, the sickness subsided and I was back to my normal self again.
