Tuesday 9/1/26 6pm hill workout Alston park NORTH lot on Dry Creek Rd.

First Tuesday of the month is hill workout to build strength 💪🏽 and endurance. This workout is perfect training for JP’s backyard ultra final edition 🏃🏽‍♀️ 🏃🏽‍♂️ 9/26/26. We will warm up one mile out and back on Wine Country Avenue and regroup back at the parking lot to dynamic stretch together. The hill workout is 600 meters uphill hard 🥵 effort on the paved access road with a fast finish cone zone on the gravel trail (last 50 meters). Your cooldown is a walk or jog to the start. Level one 3-4x and level two 5-6x. The cooldown 😅 is the same as the one mile warm up. Weather looks favorable but a bit windy 🌬️ Bring some 💦 water as there is no convenient fountain at the north entrance. The restrooms 🚽 are at the south entrance only so plan accordingly. This will be our last Alston hill workout until 2027, don’t miss it!

Thought it might be fun to try one of Josh Kerr’s workouts in honor of him breaking the 27-year mile world record in 3:42.66! See below for a description of Josh Kerr’s workout of sets of 200-600-200. Level 1 is 2 sets. Level 2 is 4 sets.

W/U: Jog an easy 4 laps, strides, dynamic stretches.

Workout:
To prepare for that 55.8-second quarter-mile average, Kerr has been hitting this track session: four sets of 200 meters, 600 meters, and 200 meters. He takes 90 seconds of rest after the first 200, 60 seconds after the 600, and roughly five minutes between sets. The goal is to get comfortable at record race pace so it won’t come as a shock on the day of competition. That’s a tolerable volume for elite runners, but if you want to try a more approachable version of this workout, consider cutting the number of sets from four down to two. As we often note, dedicating time to shorter efforts may seem counterintuitive for marathoners, but it pays dividends for your running economy over time. Speedwork holds you accountable to the clock and builds mental fortitude.

Cooldown: Jog a few easy laps, hydrate, mobility work, stretch, foam roll or use a massage device, eat a nutritious meal.
