If you never try the weights that intimidate you, you’ll never be strong enough to handle them.

As with the gym and life, discomfort is where we find growth.

Most of the population has too many emotions surrounding their food.

If you can’t fathom eating the same diet every single day, then I’m talking to you.

Eating the same foods, the same meals, day in and day out will not only yield predictable results but proves that you can remove emotions surrounding food.

The first step we take with clients is getting them on a simple, consistent meal plan to build a foundation for their nutrition and lifestyle.

This means your first diet might seem boring and lack variety, but that’s okay for now.

Once you prove you can be consistent, then we teach how to incorporate variety, which is critical for long term progress.

The number 1 concept I try to hammer home with clients is this:

Eat more PROTEIN!

Protein is your first class ticket to low body fat, more muscle mass, and less hunger.

Win, win, win!

Eating adequate protein is the single best nutritional habit you can implement right away.

Consuming more protein will keep you satiated, which makes it much EASIER to stay in a caloric deficit (which is required to lose fat)

It will also increase your metabolism; meaning you can eat MORE FOOD while being in a deficit.

Lastly, you’ll build more overall muscle/strength which not only will drop your body fat % thru having more muscle but also will require your body to burn fat at a more efficient rate.

When people say they’re building muscle and burning fat at the same time, this is what they’re referring to.

Men and women, if you’re struggling with weight loss, fat loss, and/or looking to improve your body composition, focus on getting 1g of protein per lb of body weight each day.

Once you can achieve that, the rest will take care of itself.

Before adding more time to your gym schedule, look at what you’re doing when you’re in the gym now.

Many times people think the answers to their struggles are doing more. While this may be the case when you’re first starting out and focusing on making your workout routine a habit, over time the answer is not usuallly to spend more time in the gym.

The ones that feel they are doing everything right while still not getting anywhere, the answers are in WHAT you’re doing during your workouts.

With nearly every client or prospective client I talk to, they’re spending all their energy and time in the gym DOING THE WRONG THINGS.

Your workout routine needs to be efficient and effective while moving you closer to your goals.

Workouts aren’t just an hour each day to burn some calories, they need to be focused and geared towards what you’re trying to achieve.

So ask yourself, are you only spending time in the gym doing what matters? Or filling up the minutes with meaningless movement?

Losing weight is all about creating a caloric deficit.

This is the only way, 100% of the time.

The way you create that deficit is what alternates between each individual based on lifestyle, age, medical conditions etc.

Here are 3 REALLY EASY ways to create a deficit and start losing weight, if you’re stuck.

1. Fasting. Reduce the amount of time you spend eating and you’ll typically eat less.

2. Drop the alcohol. If you eat “healthy” 5 days a week but socially drink every single weekend, that’s the reason you’re not making any progress on the scale or in the mirror. Alcohol isn’t the devil most preach it is, but it’s very easy to overconsume and leads to binge eating. Overall, drink less and you’ll lose weight.

3. Stand/walk more. If your job requires you to sit 8 hours a day, spend 15 minutes every hour standing. This is going to add TWO HOURS of standing each day that you didn’t normally have, which will create a deficit without even changing your diet. Choose the stairs over the elevator. Park farther from the store or the office. Get a walking pad.

The answer to your weight loss doesn’t have to be some articulate plan that feels overwhelming. Ultimately, for our BIG goals that will be inevitable. But to start, make better choices that are easy to implement and go from there.

All it takes is some self evaluation and then the willpower to do what’s necessary.

When you want to lose fat, the most important thing to focus on is calories. That means the amount of food you eat.

Do other variables play a factor in your success? Of course.

But nothing is as important as proper caloric intake does.

If you’re struggling and feeling like you’re spinning your wheels, stop putting all your focus on the small details, and start consistently taking in the proper amount of calories for your goals.

When you can do that, you’re well on your way to success.
