ARMD-All Reality Martial Defenses

ARMD-All Reality Martial Defenses I am a 3rd generation Bruce Lee student and Full Instructor directly under Sifu Chris Kent. I still continue to train under and alongside Sifu Kent.

I teach Jeet Kune Do and the Filipino Kali from a combatives approach and street perspective. I am a 3rd generation Associate Instructor under world renowned Sifu Chris Kent in the late Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do (what is often referred to as the original mixed martial arts) and the Filipino Kali.
{Bruce Lee-- Dan Inosanto-- Chris Kent- -Joff Stone- -YOU!!! My history with martial arts goes back as

far as the YMCA karate class as a young child, wrestling as a teenager both freestyle and HS team, and boxing in the US Army with my platoon mates. My formal training in the martial arts really got started when I studied Tae Kwon Do at Idaho State University under Dr. Ron Leblanc, an old Marine Core Vietnam fighter pilot and boxer, where I received my Black Belt in the Chung Do Kwon Alliance. My career has taken me down a variety of public and personal protection venues from University Public Safety Officer to Bouncer in establishments in Tacoma, Seattle, and Boise both armed and unarmed. One of my bosses’ was a retired Green Beret who prided himself on getting us some of the roughest security details in certain night clubs in parts of North Tacoma and South Seattle! After moving back to Idaho, I found myself looking for more self-protection skills and had always been a fan of the late Bruce Lee and knew I wanted to study Jeet Kune Do and Kali after seeing Dan Inosanto in Black Belt magazines and so forth. I was fortunate to be in one Sifu Chris Kent’s first classes of Jeet Kune Do and Filipino Kali in Boise after he relocated from California under the urging of Linda Lee Caldwell, Bruce Lee’s Widow. I trained under Sifu Kent earning my Associate Instructor Certificate in JKD/Kali in Jan of 2005. I love to teach and am now offering instruction with my school ARMD-All Reality Martial Defenses. My base is Jeet Kune Do and Kali but I am also incorporating firearms retention skills. I have been a NRA basic pistol instructor. I draw also from firearm retention tactics learned when I was going to college and working as a Public Safety Officer. I am an ALICE instructor (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) and recently have been asked to teach Self-Protection classes at the Forward Movement Training Center and also serve as their Self-Protection H2H guy for the new Security/Executive Protection Academy they are running. I look forward to collaborating, teaching and sharing my knowledge with anyone willing to listen and who wants to become effective at defending themselves as well as their loved ones!

The “wrestler” will always take you down! However, in sports the wrestler is conditioned to never “pull guard “ and put his back to the mat if you will. That’s a pin in wrestling and not what you want to happen. The BJJ person on the other hand may not have the take down reps a “wrestler” may have, but you can rest assured they have the ground manipulation flight time. The BJJ person is the opposite of of the wrestler as in you never give up your back because bad things happen when your opponent is on your back! This is the sport side of it. The take away is you need takedown and throws like a wrestler, but you also need ground skills to choke or snap limbs from the ground! All that said, you have to have striking skills for stand up and clinch position skills such as headbutt, knees, and elbows as well! Further, weapons such as knives, bottles, a writing pen, a screw driver, etc change things too! You must be “multidimensional” and not “one or two dimensional” only! Yes, we all have our favorite areas such as stand up, ground, or weapons etc. That can change too over time because of injuries, age, interest or conditions to why you train. (believe me! lol)
I love the adage from late Bruce Lee, and i’m paraphrasing it but “water can flow, or it can crash, Be water my friend” You have to have the skills to “flow” in and out of ranges and from empty hands to using weapons etc etc… The meaning goes deeper and there are other things to it , but from a combatives perspective i like to interpret it in a combat mindset approach. Or as Paul Vunak has said, you have to be the “total rat” in a fight!
Train hard, train often, and live a warrior mindset! Otherwise you may fall victim, like a sheep to a wolf! Do something everyday to sharpen and development those skills! As someone has said before…..
“Be Hard to Kill” 😉👊

When it comes to any combative situation, there are numerous variables that one does not get to dictate. These variables include such things as: • The physical structure of the opponent (size, weight, and body-type) -- tall and long-limbed, short and stocky, heavy, skinny, etc. • The opponent’...

In combative sports such as boxing, mixed martial arts, and western fencing, a lot of novices develop or get into the habit of throwing kicks and punches from out of distance, even if they know perfectly well that they will end up not hitting anything except air (I’m not talking about using feints...

My JKD big brother, Bob Bremer, likes to tell the story about how he was watching Bruce Lee train very hard one day and asked him, “Geez, Bruce, aren’t you afraid you’re gonna be over-trained?” Bruce’s response was, “I’d rather be over-trained than under-trained.” An excellent point ...
