The best way to do a good backstroke start is to know how to do one. This technique does require some strength for it to be most effective.

Gary Hall Sr. coaches us through a perfect technique for your best backstroke starts like we do at Race CLub swim camps: http://theraceclub.com/s...

My old college coach is now the Athletic Director at this school. It's in Texas, but it's very rare to have an AD who was once a swim coach. It may be an option your swimmer may want to explore one day.

All the new records are now up!

Time to start getting in shape. School is almost here.

The swimmers who trained with us have been on a break for a couple of weeks. The longer one is out of the pool, the tougher it can be to get motivated to practice. Dryland workouts are a good way to stay in a ready frame of mind for when swimming gets started again. Push ups, planks, leg kicks, jump rope, etc are a great way to ensure a productive swim season. If you go into your swim training feeling stronger, the quicker one will get up to swim speed. It's good to take a break, but, you want to come out of the break truly ready to excel.

I love this. Trust your training. Don't train just to train. Train with a purpose.

Thought you may like to see this. If you click on this story, you can see the meet sheet for this years' Y Nationals. As you will see, there are some real fast swimmers in the meet. But, the qualifying times are doable.

Door County YMCA's Max McHugh is no stranger to success in the pool. But the YMCA national champion is not even the fastest swimmer in his own family... yet.
