The August leg of the Jim Mast Memorial series saw the best attendance in all events in
at least the past fifteen years. The grounds were immaculate, the weather cooperated and several shooters set personal bests during the competition. Shooters from as far away as Florida and Canada came in search of the world-famous Myrtle Point Skunk
Pin.
The International Committee for the promotion and awarding of the soon to be world-famous Myrtle Point Female Skunk Pin held its inaugural meeting on Sunday to establish the criteria for the awarding of the recently minted Female Skunk Pin. It was decided that on any squad consisting of four or five shooters, at least one of whom was female at birth, and where everyone but the potential awardee shot 25 straight on any sub-event, but the distaff shooter missed either one or two targets only, then she would qualify to receive the much coveted Female Skunk Pin. Based on that complex criteria, it was the distinkt (pun intended) honor of the Committee to present our first-ever Female Skunk Pin to Lesa Miller.
The competition for the Jim Mast Memorial Buckle awarded to the shooter with the highest cumulative total on the 400 handicap targets from the May and August shoots ended in a tie between Keary Taylor and 2025 Champion Austin Knapp. Austin prevailed in a two round shootoff – 40 to 38 – with both shooters totaling 353 for the season. Austin also earned two more yards by shooting the high score in both handicaps and ending the weekend at 24 yards.

Attention Myrtle Point Sportsmen’s Club Members:
We are quickly approaching our August PITA Trap Shooting Competition and we need volunteers to help make final preparations. We will be having a work party this coming weekend and if you are able and willing to help, please come by the club on Saturday morning, August 8 around 9:00 am. We hope to see you there.
We will also need volunteers for the actual competition on Saturday & Sunday, August 15 & 16. We always need helpers to load the trap houses and as score keepers. Lunch will be provided for workers.
Volunteers are the reason this club is able to operate. Thank you in advance!!

Following is a recap from Mike Mann, the "Cashier Extraordinaire": Keary Taylor had an outstanding weekend, winning both handicaps from the 27 yard line and earning 2 honorary one yard punches, winning doubles and crushing the HOA by more than 20 targets over the field. The squad of Ryan Stephens, Keary Taylor, Hunter Stephens, Mac Robertson and Jeff Stephens achieved PITA 125 honors on their first trap of singles Sunday morning. We believe that this is the first 3-generation family to earn this honor. Four members of that squad are holders of the prestigious Myrtle Point Skunk Pin and it's rumored that son Hunter saved dad Ryan from becoming the fifth to earn that distinction.

Weather was typical May on the coast with everything from rain to sunshine to intermittent clouds to swirling winds. It was reported that several hurricanes and tornados were also spotted, but we believe that those reports were merely fabrications offered as justifications for poor performances.

The grounds were meticulously tailored, the targets were set beautifully and the steak dinner was excellent.

Thank you Mike
