Welcome to Myrtle Beach!
We are beyond excited to welcome Hal McManus as our new Athletic Director, bringing with him a distinguished career in both athletic leadership and basketball coaching across South Carolina. Most recently serving as Athletic Director and Head Boys Basketball Coach at Gettys D. Broome High School, Coach McManus has built a reputation for excellence defined by competitive success, program development, and strong relationships with students and staff.
Throughout his career, Mr. McManus has achieved significant milestones, including being named Region 3-AAA Athletic Director of the Year in 2025. His leadership has contributed to championship-caliber programs, highlighted by State Championships and Upper State titles during his initial tenure at Broome High School. Beyond the court, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing athletic facilities, most notably overseeing the development of a 2,500-seat arena at Boiling Springs High School.
Mr. McManus’ extensive experience includes Athletic Director roles at several of South Carolina’s most prominent high schools, including Broome, Spartanburg, Boiling Springs, and Liberty High Schools. His leadership is widely respected, with colleagues consistently recognizing his integrity, enthusiasm, and genuine passion for supporting student-athletes.
Athletics runs deep in his family, as he is the son of legendary South Carolina coach Harold McManus. Together, they are the only father-son duo in state history to have both won basketball state championships—an achievement that speaks to a legacy of excellence.
We are thrilled to have Hal McManus join our community and look forward to the vision, leadership, and energy he will bring to our athletic programs. 💚💛
