The fire service suffers some 60,000 injuries per year. 59% of them are classified as sprains, strains and muscular pain. They usually occur during lifting, pushing or pulling.

A large portion of these injuries may be attributed to the repetitive use of poor movement patterns while performing occupational duties.

Addressing issues such as poor muscular strength, lack of mobility and muscular control is essential for improving overall health and wellness, while decreasing this potential injury risk.

The goal at Box Alarm Fitness is to create a positive change in the fire service. We believe that a firefighter is an athlete, and is expected to perform as one.

Historically, firefighters are overweight, suffer from a number of medical issues and subscribe to a variety of unhealthy habits. Studies show approximately 50% of firefighter fatalities can be attributed to cardiac related events. Most injuries can be contributed to over exertion and musculoskeletal injures.

One simple way to reverse this is to create new healthy habits, follow a regular exercise program and learn how to move properly. Regardless of overall fitness, anyone can participate.

When easy to follow information is provided, the likelihood that more firefighters will participate increases dramatically.

We offer online and on-site individual fitness, injury prevention and injury rehabilitation programs for all first responders and future first responders.

We also offer department or group programs and consulting.

With over 18 years of fire service experience and a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy we believe that our programs are unlike any of the others.

Real talk:

If you’re a first responder, it can be challenging to get fit and stay fit.

Especially if you’re going about that process wrong.

But if you are out of shape, you know it, and you aren’t making it a TOP priority to change that. Either change that mindset or quickly find yourself a new career.
