That’s a Wrap on the Summer Season

We had a great group of new umpires on the field this summer getting valuable reps and learning alongside experienced officials. There’s no substitute for getting on the field, seeing different situations, and receiving feedback from umpires who have been doing it for years.

A big thank you to everyone who put in the work through the summer heat. Whether you were just getting started or continuing to sharpen your skills, we greatly appreciate all your efforts.

Now we turn our attention to the fall and winter!

Our annual Carolina Umpire Clinic is coming up in November and is a great opportunity to continue working on mechanics, game situations, and overall development. For newer officials, it’s also the perfect time to get prepared to potentially join our high school and college rosters next spring.

Following the clinic, we’ll continue with classroom sessions throughout the fall and winter. We’ll crack back into the rulebook, break down situations, ask questions, and continue preparing for the spring season.

The games may be over for the summer, but the development doesn’t stop. Great work this summer, everyone. We’ll see you this fall!

South Atlantic Umpires proudly welcomes back to The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach July 6-10 Kyson The Kid Umpire!! Kyson will be at the complex each day; everyone is welcome to come by and speak with him.

The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach will start the summer week-long tournament season this coming Monday. Before the summer season, the Management Team holds its annual umpires' meeting, a town hall-type meeting that allows the umpires and The Ripken staff to review the previous season and discuss expectations and potential improvements for the team's experience at the complex.

At The Ripken Experience, there are nine fields: four regulation-size fields ("the big side") and five youth fields ("the small side"). Although all our umpires are capable of working any level of baseball, some work on one side or the other due to the high volume of games each year. Based on coach evaluations from feedback emails, Ripken staff feedback, and overall performance, The Ripken Experience has decided to award a Umpire of the Year for each side.

It gives me great pleasure to announce and congratulate Umpire of the Year Allen Gray and Umpire of the Year Matt Altman. This honor is well-deserved. Congratulations, gentlemen!

🏆 High School Baseball Season Has Officially Come to a Close ⚾

As the final out was recorded last night, we want to extend a sincere THANK YOU to all of our South Atlantic Umpires Association members for their dedication, professionalism, and hard work throughout the season. Your commitment to the game, coaches, players, and fellow officials is what makes our association strong.

Now it's time for a well-earned week to rest, reflect, and recover.

Then... it's time to get back to work. Summer provides the perfect opportunity to sharpen mechanics, improve game management skills, study situations, and continue developing as an official. Great umpires are always looking for ways to improve, and the offseason is where that growth happens.

We're also looking ahead to next season and actively recruiting new officials to join our association. If you've ever considered umpiring, there has never been a better time to get started. Our members include experienced high school, NCAA, and professional umpires who are passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of officials.

Congratulations to another South Atlantic Umpire. Ryan Graham has been selected to work the 2026 NJCAA World Series in Johnson City, Tennessee. Ryan has been a member of SAU for the last several years and has worked hard! An honor well deserved!!!
