A truly inspirational story about Big Red grad Michael Cummings! He is the owner of Muskegon Inspired, an amazing gift shop boutique that celebrates all things Muskegon, the Michigan lakeshore and the Great Lakes! Located at 1929 Lakeshore Drive in Muskegon, Muskegon Inspired has been a key sponsor on the Muskegon Big Red Radio Network for several seasons, helping ensure all those games we love to hear get on the radio! Be sure to check out this incredible shop this summer!

Michael Cummings, a West Michigan business owner with cerebral palsy, inspires others by successfully running Muskegon Inspired, beating the odds.

Congrats Coach Loudermill on this well-deserved honor!

Thank God for the favor from the beginning!
Bernard Loudermill has built a reputation as one of the most impactful high school coaches in Michigan, and this season further solidified that legacy.

Being named Associated Press Division 1 Coach of the Year—while also leading Muskegon to a state championship—highlights not just a great season, but a sustained standard of excellence.

Loudermill’s teams are known for discipline, defensive toughness, and strong player development, all of which were on full display during their title run. What makes this achievement even more notable is his own history of elite coaching. Loudermill also earned Division 1 boys Coach of the Year honors in 2008, making this recognition part of a rare accomplishment across both programs.

With Loudermill, expectations have continued to rise. Competing at a high level isn’t new—but consistently reaching championship standards and delivering on them is what now defines Muskegon girls basketball.

Loudermill’s impact goes beyond wins and awards—he’s helped reinforce what Muskegon Girls Basketball is expected to be year in and year out.
That is what we call God’s favor.❤️🙏🏽🏀

Happy Birthday to our very own Mehean Jones-Quinn, aka DJ Q89! Mehean serves many roles, including program director and on-air personality on 103.7 FM The Beat along with its sister station M106! He is perhaps best known for his illustrious career as a DJ for parties and events.
But to all of us at the Big Red Radio Network, he is just “Q”, the guy who produces every single game broadcast that hits the airwaves! He is a consummate professional, and his dedication to make sure our games get on the air is second to none! He might be here in town, or at 98.5 FM The Wire in Orlando, or in the middle of one of his DJ gigs, but he always makes time for the Big Reds and their world-wide fan base!
Thanks for all you do Q, we could never do it without you! You may be behind the scenes, but you are the engine for all we do at the BRRN!

The legendary Al Nichols recently passed away on March 25th. One of the best all-around guards to ever play for the Big Reds, and an even better person. He took his talents to Colorado to play in college and paved the way for many Muskegon athletes who came after him, then returned to Michigan as an educator, administrator, and coach. More on his legacy here https://gothunderwolves.com/news/2026/3/30/-muskegon-6-creator-al-nichols-passes-away.aspx
You may have heard Al, along with long-time partner Jim McClain, call Big Red basketball games together for many years. In recent years, Al would listen faithfully to Big Red broadcasts, keeping up with his beloved alma mater. In 2022, he was honored at MHS for his illustrious career and you can read more about that here https://localsportsjournal.com/2022/02/1961-big-reds-graduate-al-nichols-honored-on-saturday-evening/
In 2025 Al was inducted into the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame https://mashf.com/hall-of-fame/al-nichols/ for his incredible contributions and inspirational career.
We salute one of the great ones to ever wear the cardinal & white! Al Nichols will be greatly missed and forever remembered!
