Jaycees Launch Ramp (Cottage Grove) Closure

Starting Tuesday, September 8th, the Jaycees Launch Ramp located at 2912 Lakeshore Dr. will be closed and unavailable for use due to the Lakeshore Drive Rehabilitation Project, which is planned to run through November.

Boaters and community members should plan to use alternative launch sites during construction. Convenient options are available nearby, including the Grand Trunk Boat Launch & Ramp (located just one mile north on Lakeshore Drive), which features a newly repaved parking lot.

⚠️ Water Safety Reminder for This Weekend

If you’re heading to Lake Michigan or Muskegon Lake this weekend, please use caution. The Muskegon County Health Department has informed us of an algal bloom near the Pere Marquette Channel.

If you see water that looks like spilled paint, pea soup, floating scum, mats, streaks, clumps or a sheen, stay out of the water and keep children and pets away. Algal blooms can produce toxins that may be harmful to people and animals.
Conditions can change quickly with wind, currents and weather, so be aware of what you see in the water before swimming or recreating.

Big things are planned for Pere Marquette this fall.

Starting right after Labor Day, we’re upgrading the area between the bathhouses with a wider concrete pathway and improved angled parking to make the beach safer and easier to navigate.

We know how important the tree canopy is in our city, so protecting healthy trees was a major priority. Our Public Works team actually adjusted the project design and reduced parking spots to save as many existing trees as possible. Only two trees, both previously identified in poor condition during a tree inventory in 2025 completed in partnership with Davey Resource Group and Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), are being removed to make way for the new path. To build for the future, we’re planting over ten new trees specifically chosen to thrive in beach conditions.

What to expect:
• Over 10 new trees planted with plenty of room for root growth
• A wider, smoother concrete walkway
• Upgraded angled parking between the bathhouses
• A note on memorial benches: Benches in the construction zone will be safely removed and stored, then returned as soon as the project is complete.

August 4th Kids Vote Election Results! 🗳️✨

The ballots are counted, and the results are final: Beachwood Park has been voted as the fan favorite! 🌳🏆

This was our second Kids Vote election, and we were thrilled to see so many future voters participate once again! Kids Vote is our ongoing initiative that helps local youth learn how elections work while making their voices count.

This election was all about favorite parks, but the fun doesn't stop here. We’ll be continuing Kids Vote at the November 3rd General Election with a brand-new, exciting topic for kids to decide on! 🎨🍕🚀

Thank you to all our young participants and their families for making our second election such a success!
