Reminder--Youth Day is this Saturday, September 9th at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds. Events get started at 9am and admission is completely FREE. Lots of great outdoor activities and tons of give aways for the kids! Come on out and stop by the Turkey Tents and say hi!

Happy Summer OV!
Youth Day at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds is right around the corner. If you are interested in working the turkey tents let me know. You can earn community service hrs. I know with my retirement from OV, there has been some questions about the Sportsmen's Club. I am committed to keep the club going if there is interest. I would like to run the club like we have in the past with an actual core group who are club members. The last few years, we opened the activities up to whoever was interested. Since I am not going to be at OV on a regular basis, I think having a core group of kids who I can work with and get to know would be best. We will be holding a OV Sportsmen's Club meeting once school gets rolling. At that time we can go over what is in-store for the year and we can talk about things coming up for the Club. Fishing and shooting is on the list of things to do! Drop me a message if you can help at the Turkey Tents on September 9th 2017 8am-3pm.

Fun times at the Huntin Expo..... so much fun, I forgot to snap pics! When we first walked in, we ran into our friend and outfitter Roy Wormald from South Africa. I introduced him to the gang. Shortly after, we ran into Harold from Pullen's Nagogomi Lodge. Harold and Jana are great and truly love OV kids! Later, We stopped by Roy's booth so the kids could see all the possibilities the world has to offer! I also did a little lesson on warthogs, African plains game and visited with some outfitters for Sable. I hope the kids take away from today, that the world is a big place and the possibilities are endless. Either it's catching pan fish at the cabin, reeling in musky in Canada or hunting Sable in Limpopo SA, the world is yours...... go get it! My two favorite things..... hunting and sharing the outdoors with kids!

Just a reminder that this coming weekend is the Hunting Show at the Delta Plex (Jan 27-29). Coedi F. will be rounding a few kids up to head over together on Saturday. We will be leaving the HS at 9am. We will be back around 2pm. Admission is $10.00. I will pick up lunch. Spring is right around the corner! It's never to early to be thinking about getting ready for Spring Turkey season. See you at the Delta Plex!

Super excited to share that Tyler V was invited to hunt at Legends Ranch. Tyler has been hunting for years with no luck at getting his first deer! No lack of trying on his/Ken's part! It was an honor to share this hunt with Tyler, Ken, Greg and the gang at Legends Ranch! Tyler got the ceremonial "war paint." Tyler was so thankful for this opportunity! Thank you to my friend Robert S at Legends Ranch and Greg our guide who made today possible! Your first deer is always so special! I am super proud of you Tyler!

Hunting season is back! The youth hunt was held last weekend while small game & fall turkey season are in full swing. Jon W had a successful hunt last weekend. Each year Jon's deer get bigger and bigger! Nice job Jon and congrats on harvesting a beautiful buck! This morning I had the chance to hunt with my dad. No girl is ever too old to go hunting with her dad. It's funny, as you get older how your roles change. I've been scouting for turkeys for weeks for him and was thrilled that he got his turkey today. I found out that the side/side 12g he used to harvest his turkey was the first shotgun my great grandfather gave him when he was very young. You're never too old to make memories with your dad/mom/son/daughter in the woods! Congrats to Frank and Jon! Now everyone, get out and hunt!

Youth Day 2016: What a fun day at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds! Thank you to Monica, Tyler, Coedi, Alec and Evan for helping out with the turkey tents! Even though the rain came down, lots of kids got to take a turn at shooting and learn safe gun handling! It's always a fun afternoon hanging out with my peeps and talk hunting! The guys at WMWA are some of the best! If you haven't already, check out their website at West Michigan Wildlife Association. They are huge supporters of the OVHS Sportsmens Club and we are huge supporters of theirs! It's almost time for us to start our trap shooting league.... So be watching for photo updates soon. Until our next outdoor adventure!

I had the opportunity to spend 4 days with some of Americas finest! Legends Ranch hosted their Purple Heart Hunt last week! What an honor to be in such company. I had the opportunity to sit with the hunters out in the field and share hunting stories! Hopefully this is the beginning of new friendships and my Sportsmen Club will have the honor of meeting these hunters, soldiers and bravest of the brave soon! A few of the kids had a chance to visit Legends Ranch a while ago. Robert and company are the absolute best! Please spread the word about the amazing work Legends Ranch does for our Veterans! Michigan Outdoors joined us one evening and will be airing George's hunt in the very near future! Thank you to Jenny O from Michigan Outdoors for documenting such an awesome event!
