Early morning.
I worked a hump dropping to 20 plus feet, casting a Craft Fur Bass pattern on a 6 ips sinking line.
Thrilled that on first cast I felt a bump.
On third cast got the first one.
The biggest was 3.6 lbs the other three were less but still footballs.

We had a safe, fun time.
50 Fly Angler competed in two Fly Fishing Challenges plus casting.

Friday
Sunfish Challenge had 33 anglers and 37 Sunfish were caught.

Note the LAFFF Lake Athens Fly Fishing is coming up on June 10th and 11th.
Friday we hold the Sunfish Challenge with the goal is to catch and correctly identify the Sunfish species you caught, on a Fly.
The Grand Slam is to catch the 5 specified species and correctly ID them.
The angler who catches and IDs the most correctly wins. Ties will be broken by total inches.
In the event that there's still a tie time stamps will be used.

Its free to pertisapate and the are some really nice prizes to the winner.

Friends I'll be representing the Dallas Fly Fishers at the Fly fishing Brewfest at the Mesquite convention center this Saturday. Find me at the DFF table from 9am til 1pm.

I'll give away a Frogger Bomber pack to the first person who finds me and says the nine word catch phrase I use at the end of my radio spots on Texas Fishing and Outdoors with Brian Hughes which aires Saturday and Sundays at 5am.

Three days count down til the 2021 Lake Athens Fly Fishing Festival at Lake Athens Marina and RV Center.
A few notes to anglers and volunteers.

On Friday June 11th we will meet for lunch at the Boathouse restaurant around noon.
Let's sit on the patio.
All who are there by then are welcome, join us. Dutch treat.

After we go over the the RV Center to start set up and prep for check in. Check in starts at 3pm.
All anglers must check in prior to the Sunfish Challenge.
Anglers must pre- register on line at Johnnyonthefly.com.

Anglers can check for both the Sunfish and the Big Bass Challenges at that time.
Sunfish Challenge starts at 5pm and ends at 7pm.
