After 40 years, the Mundelein Park & Recreation District's Freedom Classic is going in a new direction. Instead of filling the streets in what has become a traditional part of Mundelein Community Days, the entire event will be held online.

Here is another bird to watch out for on your next walk. I bet you will see one before you even leave your driveway!

Here is an easy bird to find. House Sparrows can be found most places where there are houses(hence the name). They are among our most common birds. They are frequent visitors to backyard feeders, where they eat most kinds of birdseed, especially millet, corn, and sunflower seed. They hop rather than walk on the ground. They are feed in flocks and squabbling over crumbs or seeds on the ground. They bathe in street-side puddles or take frequent dust baths by throwing dirt and dust over its body feathers, just as if it were bathing with water.

Today we are featuring a very familiar bird in our parks. Often times seen running and hopping in the grass with upright stance, is the American Robin. It can nest on porches and windowsills and trees laying beautiful blue eggs. The Robin's rich singing is among the earliest bird songs heard at dawn in spring and summer, is nature’s alarm clock for many of us. Seeing the first robin is considered a sign of spring, but it may be a bird that has wintered only a few miles away, not one that has just arrived from warmer climates!
