Very sorry I don't have time to keep up here folks. I work full time and my wife has been seriously ill for months.

That being said , I had the opportunity to evaluate a cane rod for a friend last night. And honestly I can't recall ever seeing a rod that was intact but in such horrendous shape. It looked like it had smallpox!.
He's really not a rod guy , so I started off by showing him a $14,000.00 Pinky Gillum rod for sale, just to give him some scale of where these things can go.When I first looked at the rod I thought I saw " Garrison " on the shaft and started having palpitations ! . It actually said Dave Woods Warrior.

Turns out that the rod, an "Old Faithful " made in Colorado " on a factory second Granger blank , four times removed from the original company. So the mystery was semi solved. Western rods tend to be a bit more stout than Eastern rods ,so I guessed 6wt. or so. It wasn't marked.

Sadly , When he asked how much to restore it, I had to say , in the $350-$400 range if I was being generous. He asked what it would be worth when it was done, $250 maybe . But, the reality is, it was his Dads ,he can hang it on the wall, and it's priceless to him.

Rereading "Casting a Spell" by George Black.If your a bamboo nut like myself you should enjoy this book immensely.A historical accounting of the bamboo fly rod from its early days in Pennsylvania to today. Great reference book on fly rod makers. Pick it up and give it a read.

Greetings ! I have access to some really pretty flamed bamboo blanks, Lets make some fly rods out of them. Rods are starting at $600 for a two piece w/an extra tip and $675 for three piece rods with an extra tip. With your choice of wrap colors, reel seat type, insert and handle type. Adjustments to be made for cost of materials. Wanted to acknowledge the passing of a fellow Collector and fly fishing enthusiast. Jerry Zeidler, age 78, passed away a few days ago. Jerry dealt in vintage lures ,rods,pretty much anything fishing related.Didn't know him well but he always treated me very good. I enjoyed our conversations and appreciated him sharing his knowledge.

Jerry had a killer collection of vintage J.C. Higgins {Sears and Roebuck} fishing stuff.You had to see it. The beauty part here if there is one, Jerry passed away while fishing at Lake Chillesquaquie at the Montour Preserve.I'm sure he would have wanted to go that way. RIP.
