June 1-5 cadets from around central Florida participated in our annual JROTC camp called JCLC. It’s designed to challenge the cadets mentally and physically! This year was no exception. In my 14 years doing this, this one was the best! The weather cooperated, the cadets were motivated, the training was awesome and the food was actually pretty good! All in all Mulberry’s cadets received many compliments on their perseverance, attitude, and being a team player! Awesome job by the cadre, Boy Scouts, and volunteers!

There's still room at our upcoming series of Junior Rifle Camps!

These hands-on, informative camps are designed for high school-age students and coaches during the summer months.

A course used by multiple world-class athletes and Olympians throughout its existence, camp curriculum includes:

✅ Instruction by current collegiate rifle athletes
✅ Intermediate and advanced exercises
✅ Personal attention to each athlete's skills
✅ Mental preparation training

Congratulations to Jordyn Stapleton and Derrick Gano on earning their Junior Distinguished Badge. This badge is earned by achieving high scores at local CMP sanctioned matches, national and regional championships. Athletes must earn 30 points with 10 of those at national level competitions. In the 25 years that this badge has existed only 1953 juniors have earned it. They join Peyton Ullery, Linzey Pope, and Ryan Roman as the only athletes from Mulberry to earn the badge! Congratulations!

Great job Kelcee! Mulberry setting the example!

CMP Recognizes Overall Athletes from 2026 CMP 3P Regionals

The CMP is excited to announce the overall winners from the 2026 CMP Three-Position Regionals Championships!

The championships were spread over two weekends at three locations: April 16-18 at the Southeast Regionals within the Judith Legerski CMP Competition Center in Anniston, Ala., and the Western Regionals within the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as April 23-25 within the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio.

Over 580 juniors competed in the three-position sporter and precision air rifle match, with top competitors moving on to the CMP National Championships in June and July. Competitors fired in two days of qualification scoring, followed by an elimination final on the second day for the top eight athletes to determine overall winners.

Outside of award winners, special recognition goes to the spectators of each location, with CMP staff at Camp Perry noting possibly the loudest final ever held within the air range. In Alabama, staff members also acknowledged the Mulberry High School Team from Florida for an excellent job cheering on their peers during their respective final – especially Kelcee Ziegler, who played tunes on her tuba!

Today concludes the 5 day familiarization with a 3x10. During the 4 previous days they were taught the positions. We didn’t cover the fundamentals that much or how to sight in. They didn’t do that bad! Another perk of doing the familiarization is that they can come to the summer practices! This is where I will teach the fundamentals!

U.S. Army Sgt. Maciel Hay (a cavalry scout with 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade) graduated from the U.S. Army Sniper School at Fort Moore, Georgia, on November 3, 2023. This made her the first active-duty female soldier in the entire U.S. Army to qualify as a sniper. She is only the second woman ever to complete the grueling 5-week course (the first was a female National Guardsman from Montana several years earlier).

The results are in to see who qualified for the CMP National Championship in Camp Perry, OH in June and July. Congratula...

To finish the year, I do a rifle team familiarization. This is open to any cadet that’s currently in JROTC but not on the team. Everyone takes a safety test then we get in the range for 5 days. They will learn the 3 positions and do a 3x10 on the last day! If they like it then they can try out in August at the beginning of the next school year. This is all run by the current team members! I give the safety test and they do the rest!

The location for our end of year party had to be changed due to some administrative reasons! Instead of canceling the party, Michelle and Shawn Ullery volunteered their house to host the party! It was a great time! Everyone that showed up enjoyed some camaraderie and fellowship! Thank you to the Ullerys for opening up your home for the team! The parents and team got together and presented me with some gifts of appreciation! Thank you! I do what I do because I enjoy it! I try to bring out the best athlete in each cadet! This year has truly been an historic year for me as a coach. I’ve had some great teams over the years and not to take anything away from them but this year’s team has been my most successful! As Lloyd Harris said “this is your golden year, your gold team “ and he’s right! Next year will be even better! Lastly, they presented me with a trophy that says “What makes a champion “ and they said me! Prior to competing on day 2 of the JROTC National Championship I gave them a speech on What makes a champion! I’m truly honored to coach this team and can’t wait for next year!
