Gojuryu Karate-do Kenwakai USA Traditional Gojuryu Karate-do Akio Takahashi, Hanshi, head of Gojuryu Karate-do Kenwakai was already a legend when I started training in 1970 at age 15.

Many senior Gojuryu instructors across the globe spoke his name in awe and continue to do so now, well over 50 years later. Takahashi Hanshi continues to teach the traditional Gojuryu kumite originated by the late Gogen Yamaguchi, which he perfected and enhanced. He runs his organization not following a business model, but instead focusing on quality above all. If I mention the names of all of the

students he taught and who are now senior instructors around the world, it would fill pages. Kenwakai is an elite group. After reaching senior status in another well-known Gojuryu organization over a 30 year period, the death of my immediate instructor, Leo Lipinski Shihan, motivated me to seek out Takahashi Hanshi, who was the revered source from which he had himself learned kumite in the early 1970's. After much effort and perseverance I was accepted as a member of Kenwakai and was appointed as head of Kenwakai USA and liaison for the Western Hemisphere, including US, Canada and Mexico so far. I became a member of the All-Japan Karate-do Federation (JKF) and in April, 2024, after five years of training under Hanshi, he confirmed my 7th Dan ranking, to my great honor. DES TUCK SENSEI

Proud to showcase today Vuyisa Sensei from Umtata, South Africa. Kenwakai has members worldwide from diverse backgrounds. We have engineers, factory workers, tradespeople, lawyers, a rocket scientist and now a farmer, among other things, in Kenwakai. Most importantly though, each and every one is a good human being. I want to bring to your attention a negative review posted today by the South African Karate-jutsu Association about Kenwakai USA. The review states "Supports genocide and pedophiles. Please do not let your children near them." I don't know who these people are. This is defamatory and not what one might expect from martial artists who supposedly learn about dignity and respect, let alone honesty. Please free to share your opinion with them and to report any inappropriate posts to Facebook. Since this was posted as a negative review you can report it to Facebook. If people can make posts like this on a martial arts page, they will cause damage to the entire martial arts community. This affects all of us. It is disgusting. UPDATE after phone calls were made the review was taken down. It’s still unclear who is responsible but based on the calls and another post denying responsibility by an individual in South Africa who has an axe to grind, it’s very suspicious.

[Meaning]
Ken: We faithfully practice the essence of karate, which Chief Instructor Takahashi has cultivated over many years, focusing on mastering the fundamentals of body, technique, and mind.

Wa: We cherish the members who gather in our Kenwakai. We value learning from each other, helping each other, complementing each other, and cooperating with each other.
